In a notice released on Tuesday, the company said the issue affects WebKit, the engine that powers Safari and many other apps.

A security researcher found the flaw, which could allow a malicious website to access data from another site opened in the same browser session.

Apple said the problem has now been fixed with improved checks on how web content is handled.

The update is part of what the company calls “background security improvements”. These are smaller updates that provide fixes between full software releases. They are available on devices running the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS and macOS.

Unlike regular updates, this one installs quickly and only requires a short restart. Apple said the feature is designed to push out urgent fixes without waiting for larger system upgrades.

The vulnerability involved a cross-origin issue in the browser’s Navigation API. If exploited, it could bypass the same-origin policy, a key security regulation that keeps data from different websites separate.

Apple did not explain how widely the flaw may have been used and also did not give further details on the discovery beyond crediting researcher Thomas Espach.

The Safari security update was released on March 17, 2026, by Apple, and applies to iOS 26.3.1, iPadOS 26.3.1 and macOS versions 26.3.1 and 26.3.2.

Apple has tested similar updates in recent months before rolling out this system globally. The company said it will continue to use background updates to address certain security issues more quickly.

AppleCare One Launches: A $19.99 Unified, Flexible Protection Plan for Apple Devices https://techeconomy.ng/apple-launches-applecare-one/ https://techeconomy.ng/apple-launches-applecare-one/#comments Wed, 23 Jul 2025 15:43:14 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=163691 Apple has launched AppleCare One, a single monthly subscription that covers multiple Apple products under one plan.

With a starting price of $19.99, users can now include up to three devices, and add more for $5.99 each, creating a more flexible and economical approach to tech protection.

This new bundle is different from Apple’s traditional AppleCare+ model, where each device required a separate plan. For users who own several Apple products, such as an iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, AppleCare One could potentially cut monthly protection costs by as much as $11 compared to individual AppleCare+ plans.

Built on the trusted foundation of AppleCare+, AppleCare One extends that same reliability and makes it easier than ever to protect the products you love and depend on like iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, combining simplicity and exceptional value,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

The plan offers everything available under AppleCare+, including unlimited repairs for accidental damage (like spills and cracked screens), battery coverage, and 24/7 priority access to Apple-certified experts.

A major expansion comes in the form of Theft and Loss protection, which now extends beyond the iPhone to also include the iPad and Apple Watch.

Again, AppleCare One allows users to add older Apple devices, up to four years old, as long as they’re in good condition. To ensure eligibility, devices may undergo a diagnostic test either through a connected iPhone/iPad or directly at an Apple Store. This removes the previous limitation of enrolling only within 60 days of purchase.

Device management is also getting a smarter upgrade. If you trade in a covered product through Apple, the new device automatically replaces the old one under your plan. You can swap products in and out of your coverage as your tech life evolves.

It’s important to note that coverage is tied to your Apple account, meaning only devices recognised within your ecosystem can be added. Headphones, for example, must be less than a year old to qualify, and single-device users still have the option to stick with traditional AppleCare+.

AppleCare One launches July 24 across the United States. Customers can enrol via their iPhone, iPad, or Mac, or visit any Apple Store for assistance.

The newly released Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 takes full advantage of the powerful new iPad Pro built with the M4 chip

This upgrade brings up to twice the rendering speed and supports up to four times more streams of ProRes RAW compared to the M1 model.

The Live Multicam function is an interesting feature which allows users to wirelessly connect and preview up to four cameras simultaneously. This is managed through the new Final Cut Camera app, which works as both a companion and standalone recording tool on iPhone and iPad.

Users can manually control camera settings such as focus, shutter speed, and ISO, making it a versatile tool for on-the-go filming.

Another highly requested feature now available in Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 is support for external projects. This allows users to create or open projects without consuming internal storage space, offering greater flexibility for managing large video files.

Additionally, the app supports the new Apple Pencil Pro, which includes advanced controls like barrel roll for precise drawing and a squeeze feature to quickly access brushes and settings.

Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8

Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 introduces several artificial intelligence-driven updates designed to simplify the video editing process. The new Enhance Light and Color feature automatically adjusts video colour correction, while Smooth Slo-Mo intelligently blends video frames to ensure smooth motion in slow-motion footage.

These features leverage the Neural Engine in Apple’s silicon. The update also brings improved organizational tools to Final Cut Pro for Mac. Users can now assign custom names to colour corrections and video effects, making it easier to manage complex projects.

The timeline index has been enhanced to allow for searching and navigating to clips with missing media or effects, and a new text-based search feature enables users to find clips based on reel, scene, camera angle, and other metadata.

Availability and Pricing

Both Apple Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 are now available as free updates for existing users. New users can purchase Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 through the App Store for $4.99 per month or $49 per year. Apple: People with Disabilities Can Now Control iPad, iPhone with Their Eyes https://techeconomy.ng/apple-people-with-disabilities-can-now-control-ipad-iphone-with-their-eyes/ https://techeconomy.ng/apple-people-with-disabilities-can-now-control-ipad-iphone-with-their-eyes/#respond Wed, 15 May 2024 16:51:35 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=131472 Apple has announced a variety of innovative accessibility features coming later this year, focused on enhancing an inclusive design.

Through these features, Apple is enabling users with a wide range of abilities to experience the tech giant’s products in ways that are personalized and commendable.

Control Your Device with Just Your Eyes

Aimed at users with physical disabilities, Eye Tracking allows for complete control of iPhones and iPads using just eye movements.

This built-in feature leverages the front-facing camera and on-device machine learning to ensure user privacy and remove the need for additional hardware. Dwell Control enables users to select elements on the screen simply by focusing their gaze.

Music Haptics to Feel the Rhythm

Music Haptics is an innovation for deaf and hard-of-hearing users. In utilizing the Taptic Engine in iPhones, this feature translates music into a great experience through taps, textures, and subtle vibrations.

It works seamlessly with millions of songs in the Apple Music library and will be available as an API for developers to integrate into their apps.

A Wider Range of Speech Recognition

For users with atypical speech patterns caused by conditions like ALS or cerebral palsy, Apple introduces Listen for Atypical Speech.

This feature uses on-device machine learning to recognize individual speech patterns, providing greater customization and control.

Again, Vocal Shortcuts enable users to create personalized voice commands to trigger complex tasks on their iPhones and iPads.

Reduced Motion Sickness with Vehicle Motion Cues

Vehicle Motion Cues is a thoughtful feature designed to combat motion sickness commonly experienced while using iPhones or iPads in moving vehicles.

It utilizes animated dots on the screen that subtly adapt to the vehicle’s motion, minimizing sensory conflict and ensuring a smoother ride.

CarPlay has Enhanced Accessibility

CarPlay receives a welcome accessibility upgrade with the inclusion of Voice Control, Color Filters, and Sound Recognition. Drivers and passengers can now navigate CarPlay features and apps using just their voice.

Colour Filters enhance the CarPlay interface for users with colour blindness, while Sound Recognition alerts deaf or hard-of-hearing users to important sounds like car horns and sirens.

Accessibility in visionOS

This year, visionOS introduces systemwide Live Captions, a great one for everyone, including deaf and hard-of-hearing users, allowing them to follow conversations and audio from apps in real-time.

Apple Vision Pro gains the ability to move captions within the Apple Immersive Video window, alongside support for new hearing devices and cochlear implants.

Additionally, features like Reduce Transparency, Smart Invert, and Dim Flashing Lights cater to users with low vision or light sensitivity.

Celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day

Throughout May, Apple is hosting various initiatives in celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day. Select Apple Stores will offer free sessions showcasing accessibility features, while the Apple TV app highlights inspiring content from creators with disabilities.

The App Store features a curated collection of apps promoting inclusion, and Apple Books offers ebooks and audiobooks focusing on disability narratives.

Apple Fitness+ workouts and meditations continue to prioritize inclusivity with sign language options and audio descriptions, while Apple Support provides valuable resources for users to personalize their Apple devices for optimal accessibility.
