The addition brings its total subscribers to 84.1 million when compared to the 77.7 million users it reported in Q1 2024.

This growth is happening even with industry challenges, like the capital expenditures (CAPEX), excluding leases, increased by 159.0% to N202.4 billion within the period under review.

During the same period, active data users rose by 2.6 million, increasing the base to 50.3 million and contributing to a 46.4% YoY growth in data traffic.

Commenting on the Q1 2025 results, Karl Toriola, the CEO of MTN Nigeria, said:

“This growth was supported by our disciplined approach to gross connections and churn management, as well as continuous innovation in customer value propositions.

“We commenced phased implementation of the new tariff structure in mid-February 2025 across our data and voice bundles, with the majority of adjustments taking effect in March.

While the full impact on usage and revenue is expected from Q2, early indicators suggest continued resilience in customer demand, aided by our targeted CVM initiatives”.

MTN Gives Update on 19 million Subscribers Affected by NCC’s Directive on NIN-SIM Linkage https://techeconomy.ng/mtn-gives-update-on-19-million-subscribers-affected-by-nccs-directive-on-nin-sim-linkage/ https://techeconomy.ng/mtn-gives-update-on-19-million-subscribers-affected-by-nccs-directive-on-nin-sim-linkage/#comments Mon, 02 May 2022 06:12:46 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=73056 Following the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC’s) directive on April 4 2022 that all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) should restrict outgoing calls for subscribers whose SIMs are not associated with NINs, MTN Nigeria has disclosed that the implementation affected approximately 19 million of subscribers at that date.

However, subscribers whose outgoing calls were restricted for non-submission of their NINs require their NINs to be verified before being reactivated.

This was disclosed in MTN Nigeria’s Unaudited Results for Q1 2022.

In his comment, Karl Toriola, the Chief Executive MTN Nigeria disclosed that as at 25 April 2022, about 8.7 million of the restricted MTN subscribers submitted their NINs for verification, of which approximately 1.2 million have been reactivated, many of whom are high-value customers.

“Outgoing voice revenue from the subscribers who are yet to be reactivated therefore contributed approximately 7.8% of total service revenue based on FY 2021.

“In terms of how general traffic trends have evolved since the implementation of the directive, we have seen a drop off in traffic following our compliance with the directive. However, we have started to see a gradual recovery as the affected subscribers are reconnected to resume voice calls.

“Data revenue has continued a steady increase but has currently not fully compensated for the decline in voice revenue of restricted subscribers. Encouragingly, we have seen acceleration in new connections.

“As MTN Nigeria, we continue to engage our affected subscribers while providing hardware support for the National Identity Management Commission to accelerate the verification of NINs submitted”, he said.

Toriola added that the company has taken significant steps to help drive NIN enrolment for subscribers who do not yet have a NIN, deploying over 4,200 points of enrolment across the country.

“We have also provided multiple channels to enable our customers to submit their NIN for verification and linkage.
