According to Omdia’s latest TV Sets (Emerging Technologies) Market Tracker: Forecast – 3Q25, that would mark 1% year-on-year growth, as the boost from the sports event is tempered by deteriorating demand in the Chinese market and growing concerns over TV memory price increases.

Shipments are set to rise from 208 million units in 2025 to 210 million units in 2026.

Looking further ahead, Omdia’s forecast points to global TV shipments approaching 212 million units in 2029.

The fastest-growing markets in 2026 are forecast to be in Europe, where Western European TV shipments are projected to grow 3.2% and Eastern Europe is on track to see a 3.1% increase. North America, the host region for the tournament, is also poised for steady growth of 2.2%.

TV Shipment in 2026
TV Shipments in 2026

These promising growth rates stand in stark contrast against the outlook for China, where TV shipments are expected to decrease by 4.7% year-on-year in 2026.

The downturn, which began with a 12% year-on-year drop in 3Q25, follows the end of local government funding that artificially boosted demand during 2025.

“The weakness of demand in China for TVs in 2026 will have a profound impact on the global market,” said Matthew Rubin, principal analyst, TV Set Research, Omdia. “Chinese brands will be looking to international markets for growth opportunities, potentially intensifying competitive pressures during a period of significant marketing activity and strong demand.”

Emerging Opportunities in India and APAC

Over the longer term, India is set to become a key market for Chinese brands, fostering competition and improving consumer choice.

This focus on a large, expanding market will support growth in the Asia & Oceania region, where shipments are likely to increase 2.6% year-on-year in 2026.

With a CAGR of 2.2% from 2025 to 2029, this will be the fastest growing region globally.

Mini LED backlight technology will continue to be a top-performing segment, with 16.9% year-on-year growth anticipated in 2026 and a 9.2% CAGR from 2025 to 2029. Within this segment, RGB mini LED is being gradually introduced at premium price points, but is expected to fall in price and expand in market penetration rapidly over the outlook period.

The data and insights are based on Omdia’s latest TV Sets (Emerging Technologies) Market Tracker: Forecast – 3Q25, which provides detailed market tracking and projections for the global TV industry.

New Research Reveals the Growing Significance of RCS Messaging https://techeconomy.ng/new-research-reveals-the-growing-significance-of-rcs-messaging/ https://techeconomy.ng/new-research-reveals-the-growing-significance-of-rcs-messaging/#respond Thu, 10 Oct 2024 09:59:49 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=145168 A new whitepaper commissioned by global communications platform Infobip shows Rich Communication Services (RCS) traffic will quadruple over the next five years.

Data from tech analyst Omdia shows RCS Application to Person (A2P) and Person to Person (P2P) traffic will increase from 1.5 trillion messages this year to more than 6 trillion messages in 2029. As a result, A2P RCS will generate revenues of $4.2 billion by 2029.

RCS is the next iteration of SMS, enabling consumers and businesses to send and receive rich messages via a data connection or Wi-Fi using the standard SMS inbox.

Following Apple’s adoption of the telco messaging service in its latest iOS 18 update, Omdia expects RCS to have a cross-platform reach of an estimated 2.5 billion monthly active users by end-2024.

The research shows that the Americas and Asia & Oceania will be the primary drivers of A2P RCS traffic and revenue over the coming years:

Region Revenue 2024 Revenue 2029 Traffic 2024 Traffic 2029
Asia & Oceania $169m $2.2bn 5.6bn 64bn
Americas $113m $1.5bn 4.7bn 54bn
Europe $22m $324m 800m 11bn
Middle East & Africa $13m $220m 545m 8 bn

Charlotte Palfrey, Senior Analyst, Advanced Messaging and Communications at Omdia, said:

“RCS offers significant benefits for enterprises and telcos. Enterprises should leverage Gen AI to enhance RCS experiences, making campaigns more personalized, engaging and effective in driving conversion. At the same time, telcos must work with the messaging ecosystem to raise RCS awareness among enterprises and consumers. Additionally, telcos should utilize RCS internally for marketing and customer care functions to demonstrate RCS’s capabilities and benefits.”

Ivan Ostojic, Chief Business Officer at Infobip, said:

“RCS has many benefits, and with the Apple upgrade, it now has universal availability. Consumers do not need to download a chat app to send and receive photos or videos. Meanwhile, enterprises can take consumers through the entire customer journey from initial marketing pitch to purchase and support. This is also a significant opportunity for telcos to seize the benefits of RCS Business Messaging and deliver rich conversational messaging for customers.”

Infobip enables enterprises and telcos to benefit from RCS Business Messaging through its Messaging-as-a-Platform (MaaP) service.

Infobip’s MaaP solution provides messaging benefits, including throughput control, content and spam control, while Infobip’s CPaaS offering enables connectivity with other Mobile Network Operators.

Benefits include detailed billing and reporting, faster brand and partner approval, additional user control, and managed service options.

Cellular IoT Connections to Reach 5.4billion by 2030 – Report https://techeconomy.ng/cellular-iot-connections-to-reach-5-4billion-by-2030-report/ https://techeconomy.ng/cellular-iot-connections-to-reach-5-4billion-by-2030-report/#comments Fri, 26 Jan 2024 08:00:22 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=123568 According to new research from Omdia, the cellular IoT ecosystem is poised for significant transformation over the next seven years, driven by the rise of 5G technologies.

With a predominant focus on 5G RedCap, 5G Massive IoT, and 4G LTE Cat-1bis modules, the forthcoming shipments are anticipated to culminate in a substantial 5,4-billion cellular IoT connections (installed base) by the year 2030.

This paradigm shift underscores the evolving landscape and increasing prominence of advanced cellular connectivity solutions.

The research also found that mass adoption of 5G RedCap is set to commence from 2024 onward with the technology establishing itself as a mid-tier connectivity solution for 5G devices that do not require such high specifications as Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (uRLLC) and Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB).

It will also enable futureproofing of devices as the industry anticipates the eventual phase-out of 4G beyond the year 2030.

“2024 will be a pivotal year for 5G RedCap growth,” says Alexander Thompson, senior analyst for IoT at Omdia.

“This will begin in China where most volume is expected and, in due course, subsidies will bring the module Average Selling Price (ASP) down to similar pricing as LTE Cat-1.”

The forecast also finds that over 60% of IoT module shipments will come from the Asian & Oceania region, making up approximately 80% of IoT connections in 2023.

Notably, the automotive sector emerges as a key driver and is set to see the largest number of module shipments due to the growing demand for smart vehicles integrating 5G connectivity.

“Across the IoT value chain, Application Enablement Platforms (AEPs) continues to be the Andrew Brown, practice lead for Omdia’s IoT group. “There releading revenue generator,” says mains a role for industry specific/ pure-play AEPs despite the exponential growth of hyperscaler offerings and financial constraints for startups in the current economy.”

Sophos is the Top Ranked, Sole Leader in Omdia Universe Report for Comprehensive XDR Solutions https://techeconomy.ng/sophos-is-the-top-ranked-sole-leader-in-omdia-universe-report-for-comprehensive-xdr-solutions/ https://techeconomy.ng/sophos-is-the-top-ranked-sole-leader-in-omdia-universe-report-for-comprehensive-xdr-solutions/#comments Thu, 12 Jan 2023 14:05:04 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=93052 Sophos, a global leader in innovating and delivering cybersecurity as a service, has announced that its Sophos Intercept X Advanced with XDR solution has been named the top-ranked and sole leader in the Omdia Universe report for comprehensive extended detection and response (XDR) solutions.

The global research company ranked Sophos’ product the highest in nearly all capabilities categories – excelling above competitive offerings with industry-best threat response, deployment, management, pricing, and licensing – with Sophos Intercept X Advanced with XDR delivering “a dominant showing in Threat Response and Resolution, an area in which other solutions were underwhelming.”

According to Omdia’s analysis in the report, “Sophos should appear on organizations’ shortlist if they are in search of an enterprise-grade solution with intuitive usability across the board, when superior threat remediation with automated response actions for common scenarios is needed and if straightforward pricing and licensing are important, plus support from Sophos and its partners.”

“Omdia believes that the best Comprehensive XDR solutions deliver a fundamentally different approach to threat detection, investigation and response (TDIR) – one that’s faster, easier, more automated, and ultimately more effective,” says Eric Parizo, managing principal analyst, Omdia. “With this criteria in mind, it should be no surprise that Sophos Intercept X Advanced with XDR is the overall top ranked solution in the 2022-23 Comprehensive XDR Omdia Universe.”

Sophos Intercept X with XDR combines anti-ransomware technology, deep learning artificial intelligence, exploit prevention, and active adversary mitigations to stop attacks.

All Sophos offerings are powered by threat intelligence from Sophos X-Ops, a cross-operational task force linking SophosLabs, Sophos SecOps and SophosAI, and are easily managed in the cloud-native Sophos Central platform or by Sophos Managed Detection and Response, a 24/7 managed detection and response (MDR) service used by more than 13,500 organizations.

Sophos recently added the ability to integrate vendor agnostic telemetry from third-party security technologies into its MDR service, providing unprecedented visibility and detection across diverse operating environments. The same vendor agnostic telemetry integrations will be available in the Sophos Intercept X Advanced with XDR in 2023.

The Omdia Universe is Omdia’s flagship comparative research vehicle. It is a vendor assessment approach designed to educate and inform the plethora of technology decision makers and end-users that engage with the broad Informa Tech portfolio.
