The 2025 programme represents a significant ₦160 million investment in Nigeria’s educational future, with each selected scholar also receiving ₦800,000 in a dedicated trust fund to support their long-term financial growth alongside their academic journey.

Kunle Adedeji, acting chief executive, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, emphasised the organisation’s steadfast commitment to educational development as a cornerstone of national progress.

“Education remains the most powerful catalyst for transformation, both for individuals and for our nation. Through our scholarship programme, we’re not simply funding tuition—we’re investing in Nigeria’s future leaders, innovators, and change-makers who will shape the trajectory of our country for decades to come,” Kunle stated.

Now in its seventh year, the Stanbic IBTC University Scholarship Programme has supported 590 students since its inception in 2019. The initiative aligns with the organisation’s strategic focus on sustainable community investment, particularly in education and human capital development.

Highlighting the importance of education, Wole Adeniyi, Chief Executive, Stanbic IBTC Bank, said:

“Education is the bedrock of development, and investing in the next generation of leaders is crucial for Nigeria’s growth. Initiatives like this university scholarship program are essential in empowering young minds to achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society” Wole Stated.

The selection process maintains the high standards established in previous years, with recipients chosen based on their UTME scores, academic history, and leadership potential.

The programme ensures gender balance among beneficiaries and supports students across diverse academic disciplines and institutions nationwide.

Eligible candidates must be Nigerian citizens who have taken the 2025 UTME examination and received admission into a Nigerian university for undergraduate studies.

Stanbic IBTC Bank has encouraged the teeming Nigerian youth to harness their inexhaustible capacity in achieving success in their chosen field.

Dr. Demola Sogunle, the chief executive officer, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, made the remark Wednesday in his keynote address at the 7th edition of Youth Leadership Series (YLS) held at the University of Lagos, tagged: “Growth Code, Unlocking the Secret and Strategies to Personal and Professional success”.

Going historical lane, the Stanbic boss, revealed how he joined the Stanbic Group and his trajectory to the top of the ladder, advising the youth to follow the growth code secret strategies to personal and professional success.

According to him, “In 1989, I joined  the Stanbic IBTC , but I was fortunate, the Legacy Stanbic IBTC gave me the opportunity to operate as a consultant, while I was doing my Ph.D programme full time. So, I started at Stanbic IBTC as a consultant on per time basis.

Back then, “I would come to Lagos every week, but when that was becoming stressful because of Lagos/Ibadan Express way, I changed it to fortnight. While I was doing that, I was also doing two or other jobs, with the University of Ibadan Consultancy Service for all kinds of research work.  On the sideline, I was appointed a Graduate Assistant in the same University, while also marking WAEC paper.

He therefore charged the youth to develop multitasking capacities in order to leverage opportunities around them.

Also speaking at the event, Bisola Aiyeola, a Nollywood actress, told the young people that shyness hinders greatness while focus promotes validation.

The Nollywood Star, who took the audience through the up and down and the fundamentals of success, charged them to shun entitlement mentality and timidity as these will prevent them from achieving success.

According to her, “One mistake I have learnt was that I was very entitled. I knew I could sing and I was waiting for record labels to sign me, but I realized that the entitlement mentality will not work. Shyness will hinder you from greatness. You have to constantly prove yourself. Try to put your mind in what you want to do. “

Corroborating her view, Salem King, a content creator, who graced the august event, harped on the significance of creating value and solving practical problems in order to be relevant, said, “I told myself that I would post videos every day for a month and my followers grew fast.

He said “Social media is not fake life. You need to start creating value. You need to start giving people things that they cannot give themselves.

However, Sogunle, further emphasized the importance of goal-setting and mentorship for sustainable success.

“You know in computer, there is what is called the ROM and RAM, that is  the Read Only Memory and the Read Access Memory, we can format those things, in such a way that when your friends see you, they will know that you have changed by the way you think and by the virtue of your wide  knowledge base.

“And one of the things we aimed to achieved by this programme is that every participant, whether physical or virtual can take a cue from the personal experiential background of some of us to know that they can achieve so much.  You can achieve your dreams, if you follow some of this code, it is not rocket science.”
