The new all-in-one insights platform is designed to provide artists, their labels, and their teams with the data and tools they need to better understand their music performance, audience, and fan engagement on TikTok, helping them promote their work and drive success both on and off the platform.

With daily-updated dashboards and comprehensive analytics, TikTok for Artists offers unprecedented access to transparent, actionable data providing insights on how music and content is performing, and how fans are interacting with it.

The new platform offers a comprehensive suite of features designed to provide artists and their teams with transparent, actionable data. It delivers detailed song performance insights, including views, posts, and creator engagements per track, along with granular post performance metrics that cover views, likes, comments, shares, and post completion rates.

The platform also provides valuable follower insights, offering a demographic breakdown of the audience by gender, age, and language.

Beyond analytics, TikTok for Artists provides a wealth of educational resources, including step-by-step guides to the platform’s tools and features, as well as support and resources designed to help artists build a sustainable, long-term music career.

The platform also officially introduces the Pre-Release tool, enabling artists to create campaigns for upcoming albums and allowing fans to pre-save directly to their preferred streaming platform, such as Spotify or Apple Music.

Speaking on the expansion, Toyin Mustapha, head of Music Partnerships, UK, Ireland, and SSA at TikTok, said:

“TikTok has always been a key space for music discovery and promotion across Africa. With the launch of TikTok for Artists in Nigeria, we’re giving artists and their teams access to insights that can help them engage their fans in more meaningful ways and grow their careers globally. This platform is about putting powerful, transparent data in the hands of creators so they can make smarter decisions and connect with the global TikTok community.”

TikTok for Artists is available now for all artists with a certified TikTok Artist Account. Artists can also grant access to their managers and label teams, ensuring that the right people have the insights they need to plan effective campaigns.

British artist Jordan Adetunji, said,

“TikTok for Artists is a game changer. It has so much information about my music, my followers, and how they’re using my songs in their posts. And it’s brilliant that I can give access to my team, who can also use the data to help us plan our campaigns.”

With this rollout, TikTok reaffirms its investment in the African music industry, supporting the region’s thriving creative community with tools that empower them to build sustainable, global careers.

TikTok Launches New Songwriter Tools, Giving Music Creators Direct Credit, Visibility https://techeconomy.ng/tiktok-launches-songwriter-music-tab/ https://techeconomy.ng/tiktok-launches-songwriter-music-tab/#comments Thu, 17 Jul 2025 09:39:09 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=163241 TikTok has launched a new set of features designed to give songwriters direct credit and visibility for their work, bolstering how the platform showcases music creators.

This development comes as the platform seeks to recognise songwriters beyond just background contributors in the music discovery process that TikTok has long dominated.

For the first time, songwriters on TikTok will be able to display the songs they’ve written or co-written directly on their profiles.

This new section, called the Songwriter Music Tab, allows fans and potential collaborators to explore their works in one place. Additionally, songwriters who register will have a Songwriter label attached to their account name, clearly identifying their role in the music industry.

At the moment, access is restricted. TikTok confirmed that only a small group of selected songwriters and publishing partners can currently use these features, as the rollout is being handled as a closed beta. Those interested in participating must join a waitlist.

Explaining the reason behind this initiative, TikTok referenced extensive research that included 871 surveyed songwriters and 18 in-depth interviews. The conclusion was that songwriters feel overlooked on major platforms, and they view social media as critical for building their careers. The company stated that over half of those surveyed use TikTok specifically for this purpose.

Speaking on the new Songwriter Music Tab, Jordan Lowy, global head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnerships at TikTok, said: “We are passionately committed to supporting songwriters at TikTok, which is why we built these tools to celebrate and elevate songwriters and their work on our platform.”

He noted TikTok’s strength in allowing creators to present their music alongside personal content, enabling a blend of professional and personal storytelling.

Despite TikTok shutting down its standalone music streaming app last year, its main platform remains a powerful tool for music promotion. Earlier in the year, the company rolled out TikTok for Artists, a feature allowing artists to track the performance of their music.

Now, with these songwriter-specific tools, TikTok appears to be addressing a key blind spot in how behind-the-scenes creators are treated.

While TikTok is late to this game, Spotify and Tidal have long provided similar features, the platform’s place in music discovery may give this initiative a unique edge. Songwriters including Lauren Christy, Toby Gad, and Justin Tranter are among the first to participate in the beta programme.

Industry figures have been quick to respond. Lauren Christy commented: “Just as young Songwriters were losing hope on finding a pathway to success in music TikTok comes along to help save the day! I’m so thrilled to collaborate with TikTok on the beta roll out of their Songwriter features, helping songwriters share their music and stories.”

Toby Gad sees the TikTok Songwriter Music Tab as overdue recognition: “It’s so exciting that this feature allows songwriters to step out from behind the curtain and claim ownership over melodies and lyrics they hold so dear.”

From a business perspective, Derek Cournoyer of Kobalt Music commended the move, saying: “Fans are increasingly fascinated not only with the artists they follow, but also with how songs are written, who’s behind them, and the creative journey that brings them to life. These new songwriter features tap into that curiosity by giving songwriters a dynamic way to showcase their work, and TikTok is leading the way in elevating how their contributions are recognised on digital platforms.”

Sentric’s CEO, Chris Meehan, added: “This launch is a meaningful step toward ensuring writers are properly credited, gain more visibility for their work, and are truly spotlighted as the creators behind the music.”

The practical benefits of these features could be significant. As KOLE, songwriter for artists like Kelly Clarkson and Jason Mraz, pointed out: “Since joining the platform, I’ve been able to connect with fans of my work who might never have found me otherwise. They didn’t need to search — I appeared on their For You Page, letting them know I had a hand in making a song they already loved.”

The company is encouraging interested songwriters and publishers to sign up for the waitlist as it continues testing with select partners.

‘TikTok for Artists’ Launches to Give Musicians Direct Access to Data, Control Over Promotion https://techeconomy.ng/tiktok-for-artists-launches/ https://techeconomy.ng/tiktok-for-artists-launches/#comments Tue, 03 Jun 2025 14:23:13 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=160001 TikTok has launched “TikTok for Artists”, a data-driven platform that provides musicians and their teams with direct access to audience analytics and content performance metrics.

With this, TikTok isn’t chasing Spotify or Apple Music anymore, it’s focused on taking charge of music discovery.

The new tool gives artists daily insight into how their songs and posts are performing, in hard numbers. We’re talking track-level data; total views, number of posts using the music, and user interactions.

TikTok now allows artists to drill down into follower demographics, including age range, preferred language, and gender.

This platform hands over strategic control. Labels and managers can log in, track real-time trends, and tweak their marketing based on what’s actually working. For artists struggling to bridge the gap between virality and sustained growth, this could be the missing link.

There’s more. TikTok also introduced a new “Pre-Release” tool that allows fans to pre-save upcoming albums to Spotify or Apple Music before the official launch. As soon as the album drops, it appears in their libraries. This feature puts pre-release momentum directly into the hands of creators, with no third-party service required.

TikTok is already well known for being the world’s best platform for music discovery and promotion, and with the launch of TikTok for Artists, all tiers of artists will gain insights on TikTok that they can use to take their careers to a whole new level,” said Tracy Gardner, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development.

“We built the platform to give artists transparent access to useful, actionable data about their music and their fans, to help them better engage with the TikTok community and supercharge their careers both on and off the platform.”

For those who’ve tested it, the platform is useful and vital.

My team and I rely on TikTok for Artists daily, sometimes even hourly. In such a rapidly evolving industry, it’s crucial for us to consistently monitor and review the analytics of my account,” said Australian artist Cyril Riley, who has over 750,000 followers on the platform.

Northern Irish artist Jordan Adetunji, who has over 640,000 followers, added, “TikTok for Artists is a game changer. It has so much information about my music, my followers, and how they’re using my songs in their posts. And it’s brilliant that I can give access to my team who can also use the data to help us plan our campaigns.”

This global launch follows months of testing in select countries. It also comes on the heels of ByteDance shutting down its experimental music-streaming service, TikTok Music. Instead of fighting for market share in streaming, the company chose to double down on its core strength, driving music virality.

As of now, “TikTok for Artists” is available in over 30 countries, including the UK, US, Brazil, France, Japan, Australia, Egypt, and the UAE, with more markets set to follow. Artists with certified TikTok Artist Accounts can sign up immediately, with the option to extend access to their label or management teams.
