Nigeria’s transition to a tech-driven economy has been accelerated in large part by data science as more and more businesses see the value of using big data to make well-informed decisions.

Highlighting data science’s popularity in Nigeria, the Google Developer Groups (GDG) Port Harcourt has announced that it is offering a one-year free course on data science, machine learning, and analytics.

The group said in a statement that DevFest participants would have year-long access to the DataCamp learning library from AI Community Africa.

Data science’s influence on the Nigerian market is not as great as it could be or should be once the inherent power in the continuously generated data is harnessed, likely because of knowledge.

However, there’s a lot to be optimistic about because more people are becoming interested in big data, and there are more programs aimed at educating Nigerians.

The Nigerian workplace offers a plethora of job prospects due to the country’s increased reliance on big data. In essence, there is a rise in the need for data scientists as more national firms need their knowledge to interpret and apply data for strategic business development.

The most recent project from GDG Port Harcourt will increase employment options in data science.

Philip Obiorah, Lead at GDG Cloud Port Harcourt, pointed out that a variety of subjects related to analytics, machine learning, and data science are covered in DataCamp’s vast course catalog. According to him, the sponsorship will enable users to access these valuable resources and enhance their skills in these in-demand fields.

Professionals with the skills to properly understand and use data will be in greater demand as organizations such as the GDG prioritize big data education across Nigeria. Click here to register.
