Adobe has introduced a new feature within its video editing software, aimed at providing video creators with advanced tools to enhance their production process.

Adobe Firefly Video Model, which has been under development since earlier this year, is now available through a limited release.

This model is designed to assist users in expanding footage and generating videos from images and text-based inputs, significantly reducing the need for reshoots or complex editing in certain cases.

One of the features, called Generative Extend, has been rolled out in beta form for Adobe’s Premiere Pro users. This tool enables editors to extend the length of a clip by up to two seconds, a solution targeted at fixing minor errors such as awkward movements or eye-line adjustments in a scene.

While this is not intended for large-scale corrections, it provides a practical alternative to reshooting short sequences. In addition to visual content, the tool can also extend sound effects and background audio, though its limitations include the inability to process spoken dialogue or music.

The company has also launched two web-based tools: Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video, both of which are now accessible in beta form. These tools allow users to generate short video clips either from descriptive text or by providing an image alongside a prompt.

The resulting clips can mimic various styles such as live-action footage, 3D animation, or stop-motion. While these features provide creative flexibility, the maximum video length is capped at five seconds, and the quality currently peaks at 720p resolution.

Unlike some of its competitors in the industry, Adobe has focused on ensuring that its Firefly model is built on legally obtained data. This makes Adobe’s tools commercially viable for users, avoiding the legal issues that have surrounded other platforms accused of using unauthorised video sources for training their models.

The ability to use these tools in commercial projects may be a key draw for many users, particularly as issues regarding intellectual property continue to emerge within the video generation industry.

Another aspect of the Firefly Video Model is the inclusion of Content Credentials, a feature that allows creators to embed information about the ownership and production process of their content. This could provide transparency in projects where synthetic video content is used, clarifying the role of AI-assisted editing and potentially preventing future copyright disputes.

The technology is still in a relatively early stage. Videos produced through Firefly’s tools are still limited in length and resolution, and public access is yet to be confirmed.
