Pay Tv service provider, StarTimes said its foray into the solar power sector was to complement the Federal Government’s efforts to close the yawning gap in power supply to homes and businesses nationwide.

The Chinese technology company, through its subsidiary, (StarTimes Solar), said that taking power demand off the national grid and switching to clean alternatives like solar is helping to close the energy gap, especially in rural communities.

According to the World Bank, the country has the world’s largest absolute electricity access deficit, with 45 per cent of the population (90 million) lacking access to the national electricity grid, a development that has critically affected the overall development of the nation’s economy.

Speaking in Lagos, on the side of ongoing Nigeria Energy Exhibition at Landmark Centre, National Sales Director at StarTimes Solar, Dele Ameh, said the company company’s suit of solar power solutions are not only cost-effective but efficient.

Ameh recalled that the company began its journey into the solar energy sector based on its conviction that it will help deepen the uptake of its decoders in the rural areas which major disincentive to subscribe to pay tv was lack of electricity supply to power their electric appliances including Tv sets, fans and other household appliances.

He noted that with about 15 years in the solar power business, StarTimes Solar is far ahead of its competitors who he said are largely new in the industry, adding that the already established structure and after sales service the company has built over the years remained its strength.

According to him, with the removal of both fuel and electricity subsidies by the Federal Government, there is no better time to enter the market on a large scale to help households and businesses meet up with their electricity demand.

Accordingly, to comparison with competitors, it offers cost-effective solutions for Nigerians looking to embrace the clean alternative energy source.

It said its unique selling points are innovative technology, superior performance, affordability, comprehensive solutions and exceptional service.
