LG Display has launched its fourth-generation OLED TV panel, built with a four-layer tandem structure that brings more brightness and improved energy efficiency.

The new panel comes with a maximum brightness of 4,000 nits, a 33% improvement over the previous model, making it the industry’s brightest OLED display to date.

This is made possible by LG Display’s proprietary Primary RGB Tandem structure, which uses independent layers of red, green, and blue light elements. Unlike previous designs, this panel incorporates two layers of blue elements and separate layers for red and green, significantly enhancing light production and overall brightness.

In addition to its amazing brightness, the panel achieves a colour brightness of 2,100 nits, a 40% increase from earlier versions. In separating the primary colours into distinct layers, the display is sharper with more vivid visuals, ensuring true-to-life picture quality even in bright environments.

The panel also includes ultra-low reflection technology, which eliminates 99% of internal and external light reflections, allowing for perfect blacks and superior contrast, even in well-lit settings.

Energy efficiency is another great feature. The panel is designed to meet the high power demands of advanced AI-powered TVs while consuming 20% less energy compared to its predecessor.

These improvements make it a sustainable choice, with over 90% fewer plastic raw materials used in its production and a recycling rate of over 92.7% for its components.

LG Display also prioritised user health and comfort with the new OLED panel, reducing harmful blue light emissions to just 45%, way lower than the levels emitted by traditional LCDs. This makes the display safer for extended viewing, reducing strain on the eyes and minimising disruptions to sleep patterns.

The fourth-generation OLED panel will initially be featured in LG Display’s premium TV range, including models from Panasonic and LG Electronics. Plans are also underway to incorporate this technology into high-end gaming monitors, offering features like rapid refresh rates, enhanced response times, and bendable designs that adapt to the content being displayed.

Hyeon-woo Lee, senior vice president and head of the Large Display Business Unit at LG Display, described the innovation as a leap forward in display technology. “This panel represents the essence of innovation, surpassing the limitations of existing displays. With unmatched picture quality and user-friendly features, we aim to redefine the viewing experience while maintaining our leadership in OLED technology,” he said.
