Airtel Africa Plc has reported a profit after tax of $156 million for Q1 2025, a 408% surge from $31 million recorded in the same period last year.
According to its financial statement filed with the Nigerian exchange, the group revenue in reported currency grew by 22.4% to $1.4 billion, with constant currency growth of 24.9% for the period ended June 2025.
The increase was largely driven by tariff adjustments in Nigeria and sustained revenue growth in Francophone Africa.
Mobile services revenue rose by 20.8% to $1.192 billion in reported currency and by 23.8% in constant currency. Mobile money revenue also grew by 31.0% in reported currency and 30.3% in constant currency, driven by strong growth both in East and Francophone Africa.
Operating profit increased by 33% to $446 million, largely driven by 29.8% growth in EBITDA to $679 million. Following the improved stability in the operating environment, the EBITDA margins improved by 276 basis points.
Commenting on the performance, Sunil Taldar, Airtel Nigeria CEO, said:
“We are very pleased with the strong growth in our operating and financial performance in the first quarter. The strength of this performance, and the scale of the growth we achieved reflects the sustained demand for our services and the strength of our business model to meet these demands.
“Our strategy continues to prioritise the customer experience, as demonstrated by the launch of Airtel Spam Alert—an AI-powered solution aimed at enhancing trust and delivering a safer network environment. This underscores our commitment to leveraging technology to lower barriers to smartphone adoption. With smartphone penetration at only 45.9%, we see significant headroom to drive further adoption and play a key role in bridging the digital divide.”
Aside from a strong financial performance, Airtel Africa’s customer base has recorded a notable increase as the total customer base grew by 9.0% to 169.4 million, with data customers increasing by 17.4% to 75.6 million.
While capital expenditure lowered compared to the previous period to $121 million due to timing differences, full year capital guidance remains unchanged between $725 million and $750 million.
