Access Bank Plc has launched a zero-fee outbound transfer campaign aimed at accelerating the adoption of the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS) among its customers.
The initiative, which runs from February 1 to April 30, 2026, allows customers in Nigeria to send money in naira to beneficiaries across African countries, with recipients receiving funds in their respective local currencies, at no outbound transfer cost.
What this means for Access Bank customers
By waiving outbound charges on eligible PAPSS transactions, Access Bank is positioning the campaign as a move to reduce the cost and complexity of intra-African payments for individuals and businesses.
The development is expected to support cross-border trade, family remittances, tuition payments, and other financial obligations within the continent without reliance on third-party currencies.
PAPSS is a continent-wide payment infrastructure that enables real-time, local-currency transactions between African countries, reducing dependence on foreign exchange for settlement.
Through its Access Africa platform, the bank integrates customers directly into the PAPSS network.
…Bank’s position
Speaking on the rollout, Aminat Olatunji, Unit Head, Remittances at Access Bank, said the initiative is designed to eliminate both cost barriers and operational friction in African payments.
According to her, customers can initiate transfers in naira while beneficiaries receive funds in their local currencies without outbound charges.
She added that the bank’s objective is to drive active usage and deepen confidence in the PAPSS framework rather than simply create awareness.
Industry context
The zero-fee window comes at a time when African financial institutions are seeking to strengthen regional payment rails under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework, with PAPSS positioned as a key infrastructure enabler.
Access Bank disclosed that customer engagement during the campaign will include digital awareness drives, in-branch education, media outreach, and on-ground activations to demonstrate how the Access Africa module facilitates cross-border payments.
Customers can initiate transactions through the AccessMore App under the Access Africa module or visit any Access Bank branch nationwide.
