Honor Robot Phone

The 2026 Mobile World Congress (MWC) wrapped up on March 5, and a few devices grabbed most of the attention.

From March 2 to 5, phone makers unveiled products that mix new hardware with AI features, showing where the industry is heading.

The theme this year, The IQ Era, focused on smarter devices and AI-driven experiences. Over the three days, some devices stood out.

HONOR Robot Phone

The Honor Robot Phone was the most unusual device at the event. It should not be limited to a smartphone, because it’s way more than that, with a tiny robotic camera that can move on its own.

The idea is to help users shoot videos and take photos without extra gear.

Some experts say it’s brilliant, others think it’s a bit unnecessary. Either way, it shows what phones might be capable of in the future.

Key Specs (prototype):

  • Motorised 4DoF (Degrees of Freedom) gimbal camera that tracks subjects automatically
  • 200MP main camera with AI features
  • Can sense motion, sound, and visuals to adjust itself
  • Can nod or gesture during video calls
  • Commercial release expected in the second half of 2026

Nothing Phone 4a

UK brand Nothing revealed the Nothing Phone 4a, which launched on March 5. It keeps the brand’s signature transparent back and playful LED lights, called the Glyph system.

It comes with camera upgrades and a few design tweaks, making it a stylish mid-range phone.

Details:

  • OS: Nothing OS 2.5 (based on Android 14)
  • Transparent back with bold accents
  • Glyph Bar: six white LEDs + one red LED
  • Rumored periscope lens for better zoom
  • Starting price: $475

Xiaomi at MWC 2026

Xiaomi brought the Xiaomi Watch 5, its first watch running Google WearOS. It comes with better app support and smoother integration with Android phones.

The company also introduced the Leica Leitzphone, a camera-focused phone with a 200MP sensor. It celebrates Leica’s 100-year anniversary.

Apple iPad Air

Apple didn’t attend MWC in person, but it announced the new iPad Air and iPhone 17e during the week. The iPad Air adds more memory and AI improvements, making it useful for students, creatives, and professionals who work on the go.

Specs:

  • Chip: Apple M4
  • Memory: 12GB unified RAM
  • Display: 11-inch and 13-inch options
  • Camera & Audio: 12MP front camera, stereo speakers
  • Supports Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard

What MWC 2026 Means

This year’s event shows that phones and wearables aren’t just about faster chips or sharper screens anymore. Companies are focusing on AI features, smarter cameras, and devices that work well together.

For consumers in places like Nigeria, it could mean more capable devices at better prices, longer support, and tools that make everyday tasks easier.
