- Alongside Moniepoint, the Nigerian companies recognised on the CNBC list are PiggyVest, OPay, PalmPay, Interswitch and Redtech
Moniepoint has been named one of the world’s top fintech companies by CNBC for the second consecutive year.
The Nigerian fintech made the 2026 edition of CNBC’s World’s Top Fintech Companies ranking, compiled with market research firm Statista.
Recognising 500 fintech companies across eight categories, the assessment focused on key performance indicators such as revenue growth, transaction volume, employee headcount and capital raised.
The latest recognition comes as Moniepoint relentlessly expands its footprint beyond Nigeria while growing its payments, banking and business services across Africa.
Founded in 2015 by Tosin Eniolorunda and Felix Ike, the company marked its 10th anniversary in 2025, and now serves more than 20 million businesses and individuals every month through its payments, banking, lending, cross-border payment and business management products.
Moniepoint is also Nigeria’s largest merchant acquirer, processing most of the country’s Point of Sale (POS) transactions. Through its subsidiaries, the company processes more than $250 billion in digital payment transactions annually.
In CNBC’s latest ranking, eleven African companies made the 2026 list, with Nigeria contributing six firms, including Moniepoint, PiggyVest, OPay, PalmPay, Interswitch and Redtech.
The remaining African companies include Kenya’s M-KOPA and Tala, Egypt’s Paymob, South Africa’s Yoco and pan-African payments company PawaPay. Payments and financial infrastructure companies accounted for seven of the 11 African firms on the list.
Over the past year, Moniepoint has completed several major transactions that strengthened its place in the market.
The company closed a $200 million Series C funding round backed by Development Partners International, LeapFrog Investments, Google’s Africa Investment Fund and Visa.
It also entered East Africa after acquiring a 78% stake in Kenya’s Sumac Microfinance Bank. In another deal, Moniepoint acquired Orda Africa, a cloud-based restaurant management platform, to expand its Moniebook business tools for restaurants and food service businesses.
Outside Africa, the company partnered with tell.money to introduce Confirmation of Payee in the United Kingdom, improving security on its MonieWorld remittance platform for Africans living abroad.
Reacting to the recognition, Tosin Eniolorunda, founder and group CEO of Moniepoint Inc., said, “To be recognised by CNBC as one of the world’s top fintech companies for the second year running is a significant milestone for our team. It reflects not just our impact, but our consistency – which is much more difficult to achieve than a single standout year.
“As we mark a decade of impact, and continue our expansion into new markets and product areas, we remain focused on fulfilling our founding mission: to build the infrastructure to power financial happiness for Africans everywhere.”
CNBC launched its World’s Top Fintech Companies ranking in 2023 to identify leading technology-driven financial services companies worldwide. The annual list covers firms operating across payments, digital banking, wealth technology, enterprise fintech, insurtech, digital assets, alternative financing and regulatory technology.
