In the rapidly evolving world of digital healthcare, one sector has remained stubbornly underserved: nutrition.

While hospitals and clinics have embraced electronic health records and telemedicine, nutrition professionals, dietitians, nutritionists, and wellness practitioners, still rely on fragmented systems and manual processes to manage patient care. Nigerian entrepreneur Ademola Balogun, now based in the United Kingdom, is determined to change that.

Balogun is the founder of 180gig Ltd, the company behind mealRoaster, a HealthTech platform designed specifically for nutrition professionals.

Unlike consumer apps that focus on calorie counting or weight loss, mealRoaster is built to support clinical workflows.

It enables practitioners to track patient progress, manage dietary interventions, and monitor outcomes in one integrated environment. For Balogun, the mission is clear: reduce administrative burden and empower nutrition professionals to spend more time on patient care.

“Healthcare has experienced remarkable progress through technology, yet nutrition professionals often continue to work with systems that are fragmented and inefficient,” Balogun explains. “I saw an opportunity to build technology that genuinely supports their day-to-day practice while allowing them to focus more on patient care.”

The timing is critical. Rising rates of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease have made nutrition a frontline issue in global healthcare.

Nutrition professionals are increasingly central to prevention and long-term disease management, but their tools have not kept pace with the demands of modern practice. Balogun’s vision is to extend digital innovation beyond hospitals and into the hands of those shaping nutrition outcomes.

Building mealRoaster in the UK has provided fertile ground for collaboration. The platform has partnered with a nutrition-focused startup to integrate into professional activities, offering real-world feedback from practitioners.

Engagements with NHS Innovation Services are also underway, exploring pilot opportunities and support mechanisms to evaluate how digital nutrition technology can contribute to healthcare delivery.

Balogun’s ambitions extend beyond the UK. He sees Africa as a natural frontier for digital nutrition technology, where healthcare systems are rapidly adopting digital solutions to improve access and modernize services.

“There is tremendous potential for technology to strengthen nutrition practice across Africa,” he says. “Many countries are investing in digital healthcare, and nutrition professionals deserve tools that help them deliver better outcomes while reducing administrative burden.”

The entrepreneur’s approach is pragmatic: refine the platform through collaboration, build trust with practitioners, and scale across diverse healthcare settings.

His definition of success is not limited to business growth but measured by impact, helping professionals deliver more personalized care, monitor progress effectively, and improve patient outcomes.

Balogun’s journey with mealRoaster reflects a broader trend in African entrepreneurship: identifying underserved niches in global markets and building solutions that combine local insight with international scalability.

As preventive healthcare becomes a global priority, platforms like mealRoaster demonstrate how African innovators are shaping the future of HealthTech, not just at home but on the world stage.

For Balogun, the mission is deeply personal and profoundly ambitious: to make digital nutrition technology an essential part of modern healthcare practice.

If mealRoaster succeeds, it will not only transform how nutrition professionals work but also contribute to healthier lives across continents.
