Governor Charlse Soludo

The Anambra State ICT Agency, in partnership with the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN), is set to engage higher educational institutions (HEIs) and Internet service providers (ISPs) in the state in a crucial one-day interactive session aimed at fostering collaboration among them towards the establishment of an Internet exchange point in the state.

This initiative represents the second phase in the establishment of an Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in the state, a crucial milestone in localizing Internet traffic. This envisioned IXP is anticipated to enhance internet speed, reduce bandwidth costs, and contribute to the digital transformation of Anambra State and the Southeast region on a broader level.

In a pre-event meeting between the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) team and the Anambra State ICT Agency team, the managing director of IXP, Muhammed Rudman, described the partnership as a tripartite collaboration between the Anambra State Government, the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria, IXPN, and the service providers towards establishing an internet exchange point.

The primary objective of this partnership, he stated, is to enhance interconnectivity and promote the information and communication technology (ICT) ecosystem in Anambra State.

“To achieve this, we need to bring all the key actors together in one single venue and brief them on the plan. The overall objective is to see how we can establish an internet exchange point in Anambra and reduce the cost of internet access,” he added.

He said, “This endeavor is a strategic move towards building a liveable and prosperous smart megacity. The aim is to create a mutually beneficial environment that deepens the digital economy of the state.

“We are happy to be doing this so that access to the internet can greatly improve in the state.”

Event details are as follows:

  • Date: Thursday, November 23rd, 2023
