To support firms and researchers working on AI, Nigeria launched the Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme. The project was launched by Bosun Tijani, the minister of communications, innovation, and digital economy when he invited applications.
The program’s main objective is to encourage the use of AI on a larger scale in order to boost Nigeria’s international competitiveness. Its initiative will provide funding to 45 qualifying startups and researchers.
According to the concept, the programme will focus on a variety of topics, including agriculture, banking, government, healthcare, utilities, and sustainability.
Candidates must be affiliated with a tech startup, a Nigerian university researcher, or a foreign researcher in order to be considered for a grant. Additionally, applicants must submit a proposal outlining their project’s goals and potential effects on Nigeria’s economy. The government’s AI priorities must be pertinent to research proposals.
All applications must be submitted using the Ministry’s authorized internet portal. The suggestions will be evaluated by a group of AI experts, who will then notify those whose applications were selected via email and extend invitations to interview.
“We’ve launched the Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme to fund 45 consortia of startups and researchers to allow them to explore further opportunities to deepen their work and build a sustainable AI ecosystem in Nigeria,” the Minister stated during the inauguration of the program.
“We are encouraging AI researchers and companies to apply for grants of up to N5 million as part of our ministry’s efforts to foster innovation, enhance efficiency in crucial sectors, and position Nigeria as a global centre for AI technology application.”
This scheme’s application period began on October 13, 2023, and will end on November 15, 2023. Interested persons can click here to apply.
