On Wednesday, June 26, a fire broke out at the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
The incident, which affected the refinery’s effluent treatment plant (ETP), was quickly contained by emergency response teams.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion before flames erupted in a specific section of Dangote refinery. The fire, originating in the ETP, caused substantial damage to the area but was promptly brought under control.
Anthony Chiejina, the Group’s Chief Branding and Communication Officer, addressed the situation in an official statement. “We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP) today, Wednesday, June 26. There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating, and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty.”
Chiejina reassured the public that the refinery remains operational and emphasized that no staff members were harmed during the incident. The quick response from the refinery’s emergency teams helped prevent the fire from spreading further.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire to ensure such incidents do not recur. The refinery’s safety protocols remain in place, and additional measures will be implemented if necessary.
