Telecom Operators - MNOs want price regime review

… As ALTON says current Rates not sustainable

Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Nigeria have again called for urgent review of the current pricing regime in the industry.

According to the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) under the umbrella of the Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), the present price regime is not sustainable.

Speaking at the ongoing Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Content Expo (NTICE 2023) organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Lagos, Engineer Gbenga Adebayo, the Chairman of ALTON, said that regulatory interventions are also responsible for many challenges faced by operators in the industry.

Recall that ALTON had last year asked the industry regulator – the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) – to approve a 40 per cent increase in the cost of calls, SMS and data.

“The current pricing regime in the industry is not sustainable. We are basically selling below cost. It is not easy to about that, but market forces should be allowed to determine the prices”, he said.
