data.ai recently presented its “State of Mobile 2024” report, a comprehensive analysis encompassing the latest market trends, industry insights, best practices, and top charts across 11 diverse industries spanning 30 markets. 

The State of Mobile 2024 report dived into the mobile ecosystem, providing essential information for professionals to do better in this field.

The report reveals 257 billion new app downloads, marking a noteworthy 1% year-over-year growth. This figure encapsulates downloads from iOS, Google Play, and third-party Android platforms in China. The pace is breathtaking, with an average of over 489,000 apps downloaded every minute in 2023, highlighting the relentless expansion of the mobile app market.

In a pointer to the robustness of the mobile economy, the report discloses a $171 billion in app store spending, demonstrating a 3% year-over-year growth. This expenditure, observed across iOS, Google Play, and third-party Android platforms in China, equates to an astonishing $325,000 spent per minute in 2023. These figures emphasise the increasing financial significance of the mobile app industry.

The report sheds light on the evolving habits of users, indicating a 6% year-over-year growth in daily time spent per user, amounting to 5 hours. This statistic, focused on Android phones and providing a weighted average among the top 10 mobile-first markets, translates to one-third of an individual’s daily waking hours. The increasing integration of mobile devices into our daily lives is evident in this substantial time commitment.

Mobile advertising continues to be a powerhouse, with the report disclosing $362 billion in mobile ad spend, reflecting an 8% year-over-year growth. Astoundingly, this figure surpasses the total economies of several countries, including Colombia, Finland, and New Zealand. The investment in mobile advertising underlines its effectiveness as a key channel for reaching audiences on a global scale.

The report also reveals that the total hours spent on Android phones reached a mind-boggling 5.1 trillion, showcasing a 6% year-over-year growth. This amount equates to 14 billion hours collectively per day in 2023, illustrating the impact and ubiquity of mobile devices in our daily lives.
