It was a defining moment for Nigeria’s aviation industry on Monday, October 21, 2025, as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) unveiled its Integrated ISO Policy, a bold step toward embedding quality, safety, and sustainability at the heart of airport operations nationwide.
The event, held at FAAN Headquarters, signaled the Authority’s determination to align every aspect of its service delivery with global standards.
Representing Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the managing director/CEO, was the Dr. Luqman Emiola, director of Human Resources and Administration, who officially launched the policy framework.
Building a Culture of Quality and Responsibility
Setting the tone for the ceremony, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, director of Special Duties, explained that the ISO Policy is more than a document, it’s a commitment to doing things right, consistently.
“The audit process is designed to measure FAAN’s commitment to quality and how we conduct our business, with strong emphasis on customer satisfaction and environmental responsibility,” she said.
The new Integrated ISO Policy merges two internationally recognized standards, ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System), into a unified framework.
Through this integration, FAAN aims to institutionalize a culture of service quality, operational safety, and sustainability across all airports under its management.
Progress and the Road to Certification
FAAN revealed that it has already achieved 70% completion of the certification process. External auditors are scheduled to arrive in November 2025 to assess compliance and close any remaining gaps, with the Authority targeting full certification by December 2025.
In his goodwill message, Mr. Henry Agbebire, director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, commended the Managing Director and the Directorate of Special Duties for steering the initiative.
“FAAN’s pursuit of ISO certification demonstrates leadership’s unwavering commitment to embedding quality, safety, and sustainability across all operations,” Agbebire said, pledging continued support until certification is achieved.
Embedding Excellence, One Process at a Time
For Mrs. Kuku, the Integrated ISO Policy represents the next chapter in FAAN’s operational evolution.
“This policy reinforces our principle that if it is not documented, it is considered not done,” she emphasized. “It gives us a living document to guide internal audits, ensuring that every action reflects our commitment to service quality, safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.”
Beyond the standards, FAAN’s vision is clear, to manage Nigeria’s airports in line with international best practices, ensuring safe, secure, efficient, and environmentally responsible operations that benefit travelers, partners, and communities alike.
A Step Toward a Safer, Greener Aviation Future
In his closing remarks, the General Manager, Special Duties, expressed appreciation to FAAN Management for their steadfast support and noted that ISO certification would deliver long-term value to both the Authority and the Nigerian aviation sector.
As FAAN moves toward full certification, its Integrated ISO Policy stands as a blueprint for excellence, one that aligns operational integrity with sustainability and reaffirms the Authority’s role as a leader in Africa’s aviation transformation.
