May 2, 2025

On a mission to harness its vast potential and bolster its digital economy, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, launched the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.

The 3MTT initiative is a component of the Renewed Hope agenda, aiming to create two million digital jobs by 2025.

The programme seeks to nurture a pipeline of technical talent, positioning Nigeria as a net talent exporter.

Benefits

The 3MTT programme holds numerous advantages for both individuals and the nation as a whole:

Empowering Individuals with Technical Skills:

For fellows, the programme offers training in specific technical skills that empower them to be competitive in the local and global technical talent marketplace. This training enhances employability as well as equips youths to contribute to the digital economy.

Economic Growth and Job Creation:

By creating a skilled digital workforce, Nigeria is paving the way for economic growth and job creation. The programme’s ultimate goal is to generate 2 million digital jobs, and 3MTT plays a crucial role in realizing this vision.

Positioning Nigeria as a Net Talent Exporter:

With a focus on technical skills that are in high demand globally, the 3MTT programme will position Nigeria as a net talent exporter, allowing its workforce to seize opportunities on the international stage.

Eligibility

The first phase of the 3MTT programme is executed as a fellowship model in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). To be eligible for this program:

  • Individuals must have a keen interest in specific technical skills
  • Training providers accepted into the programme will receive funding for the cost of training

In this first phase, the programme aims to train and place 30,000 technical talents, representing 1% of the overall target.

The program’s framework is a result of collaboration with key stakeholders across government agencies, training providers, educational institutions, development agencies, and the private sector.

Skills Focus for the First Phase

The 3MTT programme focuses on the following twelve technical skills in its first phase:

  1. Software Development
  2. UI/UX Design
  3. Data Analysis & Visualization
  4. Quality Assurance
  5. Product Management
  6. Data Science
  7. Animation
  8. AI / Machine Learning
  9. Cybersecurity
  10. Game Development
  11. Cloud Computing
  12. Dev Ops

The courses offered in this phase are designed to be approximately three months in duration.

Training Approach

The training offered by the 3MTT programme is hybrid, combining both online and in-person components. While most of the training can be completed remotely, certain aspects require in-person training, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience.

How to Apply

For both individuals and training providers, the opportunity to participate in the 3MTT programme is open. Here’s how you can apply:

Individuals interested in becoming fellows can apply on the programme’s official website.

Organizations willing to join the pool of training providers for the programme can submit applications.
