FiiO has launched its next-generation digital audio player, FiiO M33 R2R that brings true R2R decoding to the mainstream portable music player market.

The launch follows the recent debut of the DM15 R2R portable CD player and FT13 wooden headphones.

Combining a fully differential complementary 24-bit R2R resistor array with modern hardware, the M33 R2R is designed for listeners who demand uncompromising sound quality, flexibility and performance.

It slots into the FiiO digital audio range below the flagship M27 but is inspired by M27 features.

At the heart of the M33 R2R lies a fully differential 24-bit R2R resistor array, delivering a natural, analog-like presentation prized by purists for accuracy, dynamic realism and musical cohesion.

This architecture is paired with a TI multi-stage audio amplifier, ensuring clean signal amplification with exceptional control and headroom.

With an output power of 1100mW + 1100mW, the M33 R2R drives a wide range of headphones, from sensitive in-ear monitors to demanding full-size designs.

To maintain signal integrity from source to output, FiiO equips the M33 R2R with an independent XMOS XU316 chip and its M27-derived in-house DAPS audio purification system. Together, these technologies reduce jitter, suppress noise and preserve musical detail.

Powering the M33 R2R is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680, running Android 13 for a smooth, responsive and future-proof experience. With 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, users can seamlessly stream, multitask and store extensive music libraries thanks to the MircoSD card slot.

A 5.5-inch HD display provides intuitive navigation and clear visual feedback, whether browsing albums, adjusting settings or managing music streaming apps.

For personalisation and precision tuning, the M33 R2R features a 10-band parametric equalizer with AUTO EQ support, allowing listeners to tailor sound signatures to their preferences or specific headphones with pro-grade accuracy. An independent power input allows a higher level of power to drive large headphones with a dedicated Desktop Mode option, rivalling desktop headphone amplifiers.

Despite its powerful spec, the M33 R2R is built for real-world portability. Its efficient architecture enables up to 14 hours of battery life, making it a reliable companion for extended listening sessions at home or on the move.

Priced at approximately $600/£449, the FiiO M33 R2R redefines value, bringing authentic R2R sound, powerful amplification and modern Android functionality into a slimline player.

FiiO will release the M33 in Q1 2026 and it will be joined by the FiiO Retro Box speaker which allows you to use the M33 as a music source with digital cassette style display, pictured below.

The pricing has not been announced at the time of filing this report.
