Since 2017, the Samsung Research Artificial Intelligence Center (SAIC) has supported the development of cutting-edge AI technologies and an AI core platform for existing Samsung products and services.
Samsung has recently invested heavily in Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology development to optimize the high-quality device performance, and to deliver the new way of interaction between the device and the user.
Let us tell you a few of these developments by as revealed during the unveiling of Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra series in Nigeria:
Proprietary Innovation:
Since 2017, the Samsung Research Artificial Intelligence Center (SAIC) has supported the development of cutting-edge AI technologies and an AI core platform for existing Samsung products and services.
The Korean technology giant has also filed around 3,000 AI-related patents, further setting them apart from any other mobile device company.
Most recently, Samsung announced in-house development of a Generative AI model called Samsung Gauss.
Open Collaboration:
The company has also openly collaborated with innovators across the industry. Through these collaborations, Samsung has been able to optimize breakthrough technologies from other AI leaders for the users’ benefit.
Knox Security Leadership:
“With regards to generative AI, Samsung believes that security and privacy are key to delivering safe, reliable experiences,”, said Sung-won Jung, the CEO, Samsung West Africa during the launch of Galaxy S24 series in Nigeria.
“Samsung’s Knox Security platform helps assure that personal data is securely protected from end-to-end and in real-time”, he added.
Samsung has closely collaborated with industry leading partners like Google to empower AI on Galaxy S24.
Which features were engineered by Samsung, and which are powered by Google?
Nathan Lee, Business Manager, MX Division, Samsung West Africa, speaks to this:
“Galaxy AI is a comprehensive mobile AI experience, powered by both on-device AI and cloud-based AI. Samsung’s AI research and development, and on-device AI innovations define many of Galaxy S24 core AI experiences such as Live Translate, Chat Assist, Note Assist, and more.
“To help ensure we bring the most powerful solutions and services to market for users, Galaxy S24 also features optimized AI capabilities in collaboration with Google, including Circle to Search, Chat Assist, Google Messages, and many more to come.
For Galaxy AI translation features, how many languages will be supported? When will more languages especially Nigerian languages be supported?
Chika Nnadozie, head of marketing, Samsung West Africa, had this to say:
“At the time of launch, Live Translate supports 13 languages and we plan to expand the language options based on consumer needs. Chat Assist also supports 13 languages at the time of launch”.
Techeconomy learned that the languages include; Chinese (simplified), English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese.

Well, Steven Okwara, product manager, MX Division, Samsung West Africa answered this question during the unveiling of Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra series in Nigeria, thus:

“Galaxy S24 Series is just the beginning of mobile AI and with on-device AI features, our users can enjoy the latest generative AI features without concerns of privacy protection”.
Okwara added that as mobile technology continues to evolve with improved processing power, streamlined AI models, optimized memory and more, on-device AI features will continue to expand and further enhance users’ everyday lives.
Regarding the future development direction of Gen AI on your smartphones, Samsung has unparalleled reach and a unique ability to integrate across multiple product categories.
“In this era of AI, users will continue to rely on mobile devices as the hub of their connected lives, and Galaxy S24 series is just the beginning.
“Our immediate priority is bringing Galaxy AI experiences to our flagship devices, including S series and Z series within 1H 2024. However, integrating AI into more of our product portfolio is a priority for us moving forward”, Nnadozie added.
