HerRyde, First Women-Only Ride-Hailing Platform Launches in Abuja

HerRyde, a mobility platform just like Uber, Bolt and the likes, has been launched in Abuja, but this time, solely focused on women and their safety.

HerRyde has been established with the goal of reducing the rate at which women are faced with threatening events when it comes to ride-hailing services. Its goal also includes providing more job opportunities for women, as the services are provided by female drivers only.

HerRyde’s Co-founders, Monsurah Oluwafuyi, Muhammad Muazu, and Kamaldeen Ibrahim, have garnered experience from sectors good enough to enable the seamless development of the startup.

Monsurah Oluwafuyi has a background in marketing, management consulting, and HR. Kamaldeen Ibrahim was a product manager at Opay, where she was part of the team who built the ORide product, while Muhammad Muazu is an expert in risk, compliance, and data science.

Per TechCabal, the founders said the idea of HerRyde came from personal experiences, as well as that of their families and friends encountered in aspects of physical, sexual and verbal assault, robbery and others.

Abuja was chosen as the first state to launch due to its low entry barrier, unlike Lagos where the demand for several licenses from drivers and ride-hailing apps is high. The HerRyde fares will be determined just as Uber and Bolt do, based on time and distance.
