In addressing recent safety concerns raised on social media, inDrive, a mobility and urban services platform, has said that each reported incident has been meticulously investigated individually.

This was contained in the company’s response to Techeconomy’s inquiry regarding recent accusations against the platform, especially over alleged crime related activities of one of its drivers.

Lineo Thakhisi, the public relations manager – inDrive Africa, told Techeconomy that all submissions have been handled with respect, and any drivers or passengers found to have behaved inappropriately have been permanently banned from using the app.

“Ensuring safety is our paramount focus at inDrive.

“We give significant importance to the safety of both drivers and passengers. Only registered drivers with verified documentation are allowed to use the application, eliminating anonymity on the platform and enhancing safety measures. inDrive is dedicated to collaborating with law enforcement agencies as required by law.

This includes offering counseling and sharing all necessary information if she wishes to involve authorities. Our responses have been directed both to her directly and on her social media posts. The drive in question was promptly and permanently prohibited from using our application.

“As a global provider of mobility and urban services, inDrive incorporates various safety features. These encompass passenger ratings, a Safety Center with instructional resources, an emergency function, and the ability to share journey routes.

“In the case of safety-related incidents, inDrive conducts thorough investigations and may offer mental health support if needed. Personal information is shared with law enforcement only in response to valid legal requests. The SOS button is available for both drivers and passengers to address immediate safety concerns during a ride”.

Emphasizing the utmost significance of passenger safety, the PR Manager for inDrive Africa said that the application includes a routine security check for drivers, meticulously verifying the authorization of individuals utilizing the application.

“Additionally, we perform regular checks on driver profile photos/avatars and automatically verify photos at consistent intervals, comparing submitted images with those stored in our system. This strategy ensures a strong and ongoing monitoring system, bolstering the overall safety measures implemented by our platform.
