INEC, BVAS | 2027 General Election

INEC (BVAS)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that the Commission has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.

Reacting to the reports, Mr. Adedayo Oketola, chief press secretary/media adviser to the INEC Chairman, said the Commission has not issued any timetable or schedule for the 2027 polls.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to categorically refute reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the Commission has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election. This information is false and did not emanate from INEC,” Oketola stated.

He explained that the Commission operates strictly within the provisions of the law, noting that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 clearly stipulates that INEC shall publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.

“Any timetable or schedule of activities issued outside this statutory framework cannot be from INEC,” he added.

Oketola assured Nigerians that the official Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election would be released in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022.

“When the timetable is ready, it will be communicated through INEC’s established and verified channels,” he said.

The Commission urged the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and to always rely on INEC’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative information.
