Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has celebrated a historic milestone with the commissioning of Ishokan 106.7 FM, Nigeria’s first local government-owned radio station, established by Mushin Local Government.
The governor described the initiative as a bold step in grassroots governance and lauded Mushin’s Council Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Olanrewaju Bamigboye, for the feat.
Speaking through his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, at the commissioning event held at Oliyide Street, Mushin, Sanwo-Olu also inaugurated other landmark projects, including a new ultra-modern market and civic infrastructure aimed at improving the quality of life in the densely populated community.
“It’s always good to communicate with our people,” Sanwo-Olu said. “What we’ve seen here is not just commendable but inspiring. A local government is now leading by example in infrastructure development, digital communication, and public service delivery. Some states haven’t even achieved this.”
The Governor applauded the consolidation of essential federal services in a single location, the development of roads and healthcare facilities, and the innovative establishment of a radio station aimed at strengthening local information flow and community engagement.
He noted that the achievements reflect the progressive values of the All Progressives Congress (APC), under which Lagos has been undergoing steady transformation.
Sanwo-Olu urged residents to remain politically active and prepare for the next voter registration cycle, noting that owning a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is essential to sustaining good governance and the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Let us be ready to defend the mandate of progress with our votes. The future of our nation rests on active civic participation,” the Governor stated.
Wise Counsel, Strategic Governance
Former Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon also addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of strategic governance and wisdom in leadership.
He advised that continued consultation and policy innovation would be vital for Mushin’s transformation.
Also speaking, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, Chief of Staff to Governor Sanwo-Olu, praised the alignment of the projects with the State Government’s THEMES Plus agenda, describing the local government’s achievements as a source of pride for Lagosians.
“The State is proud of Hon. Bamigboye’s leadership. He is executing the THEMES Plus agenda at the grassroots. We believe his successor will have a strong foundation to build on,” Ayinde said.
Bamigboye: “These Projects Belong to the People”
Earlier, Hon. Emmanuel Olanrewaju Bamigboye reaffirmed his commitment to people-focused governance, urging residents to take ownership of the newly commissioned projects.
“These facilities are not mine. They belong to the people. I encourage everyone to protect and use them wisely. When we see ourselves as custodians of public infrastructure, we build stronger communities.”
He reiterated that his administration remains focused on transformational development and inclusive progress, promising more impactful projects in the months ahead.
“This administration is just beginning,” Bamigboye declared. “We’re building a Mushin that others will look to for leadership, growth, and innovation.”
Legacy of Progress in Mushin
The commissioning of Ishokan 106.7 FM and the Mushin market signals a broader shift in how local governments can directly influence development through creativity, accountability, and service delivery. As Mushin sets the pace, Lagos continues to lead in Nigeria’s subnational innovation, proving that true governance begins with listening, and now, Mushin can broadcast that message loud and clear.
