eCommerce giant Jumia has officially launched its annual Black Friday sale, a month-long event running from November 1st to November 30th.

Themed “No Too Calculate,” Jumia aims to provide Nigerians with a seamless and affordable shopping experience, promising to be bigger and better than ever before.

The platform will feature a wide range of products across various categories, including electronics, fashion, beauty, and home goods, all at significantly discounted prices.

At the Jumia Black Friday Roundtable held on Thursday, Sunil Natraj, CEO of Jumia Nigeria, reiterated the company’s mission of inclusivity and accessibility.

“We are excited to launch another Jumia Black Friday. For us, this campaign is about making e-commerce more accessible to consumers in Nigeria. We recognize the current economic situation and have worked closely with our brand partners to offer the best possible deals to consumers during this period.

“Additionally, our expanding network of Pickup Stations ensures that even more consumers, regardless of their location, can benefit from the convenience of online shopping. As we grow, our focus remains on creating real value for both our consumers and sellers through our extensive ecosystem,” said Natraj.

He asserted the company’s role as an essential intermediary, stating, “We act as a bridge between suppliers and consumers. That’s what we are as a marketplace.” Natraj further emphasised Jumia’s extensive platform, which ensures that transactions are “secure and processed efficiently and quickly.”

This year’s Black Friday campaign is supported by Xiaomi as the platinum partner, alongside renowned brands such as Oraimo, Nivea, Infinix, Tecno, Itel, Haier Thermocool, Binatone, Pernod Ricard, Diageo, Bacardi, Hikers, Ecoflow, Skyrun, Glamstar, Ledrop, Unilever, Macallan, LG, and others.

Operating across nine countries, including Nigeria, which Natraj calls “the land of opportunity,” Jumia aims to address the needs of over “30 million, maybe more, people who have needs, who have aspirations.”

The company has expanded into cities such as Maiduguri, aiming to bring “a confluence of supply and demand” to even the most remote areas of Nigeria. “We are a Nigerian company hoping to exist across Nigeria,” he said.

Jumia’s model is grounded in simplicity and efficiency. Natraj explained that “everything that we supply goes through this hub here in Lagos,” with orders dispatched nationwide, supporting Jumia’s commitment to quality and reliability.

“The entire process is very robust,” he assured, adding that Jumia’s services now extend beyond Nigeria’s metropolitan centres. “Today, our sales come outside as much as they come in from Lagos,” Natraj said, illustrating the platform’s wide-ranging appeal.

To enhance accessibility, Jumia has invested in over 200 pickup stations covering 150 cities, building trust within the Nigerian market. “These pickup stations remove the abstract concept of an app to a real-life entity,” Natraj explained, noting that they serve as both collection points and customer service centres. “It’s a very seamless transaction and a transfer of trust,” he said.

The Black Friday campaign also serves as a platform for international and local brands as well as SMEs to expand their reach and boost sales. With Jumia’s logistics network partnering with hundreds of local logistics providers, delivery reaches all corners of Nigeria, including smaller towns and rural areas.

“It isn’t necessarily profit, it isn’t necessarily business at all times. It’s also a time for celebration,” Natraj stated, stressing Jumia’s focus on customer satisfaction.

“At Xiaomi, we believe that everyone deserves access to the latest cutting-edge technology. Jumia Black Friday is the perfect opportunity for consumers to experience our innovative products at unbeatable prices. Our Black Friday deals reflect our commitment to making advanced, high-quality technology accessible to all,” said Xingyu Yang, country manager, Xiaomi Nigeria.

Since Jumia introduced Black Friday to Nigeria in 2014, the company has unlocked new opportunities for both consumers and businesses.

With online shopping in Africa projected to reach $75 billion by 2025, Nigeria is expected to have a huge impact on this e-commerce growth.

Shoppers can visit Jumia’s website or app starting November 1st to take advantage of these exclusive Black Friday deals.
