In a remarkable move, Starlink has announced the reversal of its recent service fee increase in Nigeria, Techeconomy can report.
This decision comes as a welcome relief to Nigerians who have been eagerly awaiting affordable internet solutions.
Recall that earlier this month Starlink announced price adjustment, which the company attributed to the disturbing economic situations, affects both new and existing users of its services.
For new customers, the price hike took immediate effect, while current customers were to experience the changes from October 31, 2024.
The new subscription rate for the standard residential plan was pegged at ₦75,000, while the mobile regional plan (roam unlimited) settled at ₦167,000. The mobile global package, which provides global roaming services, was also raised to ₦717,000.
The company justified the new pricing structure by pointing to the impact of inflation, explaining that it needed to revise its service fees to stay in line with the ongoing economic challenges.
However, in a price reversal announcement, the world’s leading provider of satellite launch services said, “Last month, we increased the monthly service price for Starlink in Nigeria to account for inflation, helping us maintain operations and continue delivering reliable service. Today, we are temporarily suspending this price increase as we navigate regulatory challenges.
“If you’ve already been charged at the higher rate, a one-time credit will be applied to your account to cover the difference. You also have the flexibility to cancel your service at any time,” they added.
With Starlink’s revised pricing, Nigerians can now enjoy seamless, high-speed internet connectivity at affordable rates. This move is poised to revolutionize Nigeria’s digital landscape, empowering individuals, businesses, and communities.
This development is a testament to the power of partnerships and a consumer-centric approach. Starlink’s partnership with TD Africa, Africa’s leading distributor of tech products, and Konga.
