As of July 1, 2024, Meta has launched new monetization options for eligible content creators in Nigeria and Ghana.

This initiative aims to enable creators to generate revenue from their videos and reels on Facebook, offering them a platform to reach global audiences in over 30 languages.

Creators can now incorporate in-stream ads into their original videos, earning money from pre-roll, mid-roll, image, and post-roll ads. Facebook Ads on Reels will also allow creators to monetize their short-form content, rewarding them based on the performance of their reels.

To take advantage of these features, creators must comply with Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies, and be at least 18 years old. For in-stream ads, a minimum of 5,000 followers is required.

Moon Baz, Meta’s Global Partnerships Lead for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey, highlighted the prospective impact of this launch. He said: “This expansion empowers creators in Nigeria and Ghana, setting a new standard for creativity worldwide and making Meta’s apps a central hub for content creators.”

Earlier this year, Meta’s President of Global Affairs, Sir Nick Clegg, visited President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, where he announced Meta’s plans to introduce monetization features for Nigerian creators. The visit also celebrated the successful landing of a Meta-backed deep-sea cable in Nigeria, facilitated by an executive order from President Tinubu.

The Meta monetization feature is expected to bolster the digital economy in Nigeria and Ghana, providing creators with the tools to monetize their content and reach a broader audience.
