Qualcomm, the supplier of mobile phone chips, announced the introduction of advanced technology from its laptop chip development into its mobile processors.

The newly integrated technology aims to enhance the capabilities of mobile chips, particularly in managing complex tasks such as image and text generation.

This is in line with Qualcomm’s deeper focus on expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) features in mobile devices.

In 2021, the company recruited a team of former Apple engineers to bolster its push into the laptop market, resulting in the development of the Oryon custom computing architecture.

Initially intended for laptops, this technology is now being adapted for Qualcomm mobile processors, starting with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

Qualcomm’s latest innovation is designed to boost the performance of smartphones in executing AI-related functions, providing tools for developers beyond what is available on Android.

Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager for Qualcomm’s mobile handset division, highlighted the company’s initiative to offer unique solutions for developers looking to tap into AI.

He noted that while companies like Google are advancing quickly in this area, Qualcomm’s proprietary technology brings additional value to the market.

Major global brands such as Samsung, Asustek, and Xiaomi are expected to be among the first to adopt Qualcomm’s new mobile chip in their upcoming smartphone models.
