Quick News Roundup: What’s New in the Software, App World?

| By Ethan Ebenezer

Apple Releases iOS 26 Update for All Supported iPhones | App and Software world

Source: Apple

Over the past week, the crypto and software industry saw many interesting changes, from new policies disrupting the chip market to major updates from leading software companies.

In today’s world, software and apps evolve almost on a daily basis, changing how people interact with them; a feature that seems new today may change tomorrow.

Many Microsoft users can still remember when Windows 10 appeared as a major upgrade years back, and now its end of support marks an end to an era.

This simply illustrates how quickly technology moves on and the need for users to evolve with the change. Meanwhile, mobile apps are continually accelerating and innovating with the help of artificial intelligence.

At the same time, it’s no longer a myth that the software industry operates in isolation. The industry is highly networked with global politics and economics and is also heavily dependent on the raw materials that power the industry.

So, the regulations and tariffs imposed by key market players ripple through the tech world. The trade decisions between countries or transnational bodies can also affect the availability of materials used to make chips for smartphones and other household computer devices.

Each of the new developments carries both opportunities and challenges. Let’s go into the latest stories from the software ecosystem and market makers.

Updates from the Software Ecosystem

Recent happenings in the software ecosystem show that we have entered an era where tech business decisions and government actions overlap more than ever. As the growing population of today’s world keeps on getting exposed to technology, every new policy or software update carries effects even beyond the tech world itself.

Microsoft Ends Support for the Windows 10 Operating System

To begin with, Microsoft’s decision to end support for the Windows 10 version of their desktop operating systems marks a new turning point for their millions of users worldwide. This decision was not actually spontaneous.

Microsoft announced that it would end support for the Windows 10 version on October 14th, 2025, prompting their users to migrate to the new Windows 11 version.

Nothing will actually happen after October 14th, 2025. The new development only means that Microsoft will no longer provide benefits like free updates, technical assistance, and security to Windows 10 users.

This does not mean that Windows 10 will stop functioning as usual, but it’s still not a good idea to keep on using it.

Without normal updates and security, Microsoft provides its users, they become vulnerable to malware and virus attacks. Upgrading your PC’s operating system to Windows 11 is absolutely free.

Tariff Wars Between the USA and China Pressure the Chip Market

In another new move by President Donald Trump, the U.S government would impose new tariffs of over 100 percent on China starting on the 1st of November, 2025. This new announcement showed the financial market, particularly the blockchain market, with users recording enormous losses and entire portfolios wiped out, but that’s not the main downside.

The new tariffs imposed by the U.S government are bound to shake the consumer electronics market, as the supply of materials for software chips would be affected.

The new tariffs are said to be a retaliation to China’s recent export controls on rare earth metals. These raw materials are essential for high-tech manufacturing, including automobiles, defense systems, and essential computer chips, and China controls over 70 per cent of global output.

As trade tensions deepen, some economists are projecting an impediment to the development of AI infrastructure if this tariff war continues between the U.S. and China.

Highlights from the App World

While we witness political and structural updates from the consumer software ecosystem, the world of apps is witnessing its own progress, which is directed towards better intelligence and personalisation. Artificial intelligence is the centre of attention in recent app upgrades from big tech companies, and it’s quietly reshaping how we manage our daily lives and digital experiences.

Google Meet and Google Calendar get Major AI Upgrades

Google takes the lead in recent developments as they add powerful automation features to some of their most used apps. To begin with, Google’s Gemini can now schedule meetings directly on Google Calendar.

The update is aimed at users within Google’s productivity ecosystem, giving them more flexibility through AI-driven scheduling.

With the new “Help me schedule” feature, found in the Gemini app or within Gmail, meetings can be created automatically without opening Google Calendar.

Similarly, the Google Meet app got its own AI upgrade for those who care a lot about how they appear for virtual meetings.

The new feature can digitally enhance a person’s appearance on video calls, just in case you are having an impromptu meeting and you can’t have a makeover.

This new AI rollout from Google shows that the tech giant is laying more emphasis on personalization and improving not just the productivity of its users but also their presentation.

OpenAI Launches New App Called Sora and Now Integrates Walmart for Easy Shopping

OpenAI, the software company behind the popular ChatGPT app, launched a new app called Sora. This new app showcases OpenAI’s long-term development in not just text-based AI output but also videos.

Powered by the latest model, Sora 2, the app features a TikTok-like “For You” feed for AI video. It gathered over 5 million downloads in a week, citing the increasing interest in AI technology from everyday Internet users.

Meanwhile, as an industry player in the retail market, Walmart has taken a huge step towards AI-powered shopping.

Recently, the company announced a partnership with OpenAI, a partnership that allows people who shop at Walmart to order products through an AI chatbot within the ChatGPT app.

A shopper can, for example, order cleaning supplies, personalize their interest based on brand choice and product quality, and check out easily in the same chatbot interface.

This new development is based on OpenAI’s grand plan to integrate e-commerce functions into ChatGPT, connecting sellers and buyers from platforms like Etsy and Shopify. Altogether, the recent app updates indicate that AI is becoming more human centred and ready to adapt to smoother interactions.

The recent updates reveal that technology no longer stands apart from the economic and social lives of humans today. It powers it.

The AI powered apps and trade tensions shaking the chip market show that the progress in tech is tied to political forces, human choices, and economic realities.

The truth is that progress will not stop. It will keep on moving shaped by the decisions of humans. The future of technology definitely belongs to those who evolve with it.
