On July 10th 2024, United States members of Congress, Rich McCormick and French Hill submitted a resolution to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, aimed at pushing for the Government of Nigeria to release Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance member of Staff and former federal agent.

Techeconomy reported on June 5, 2024 that U.S. lawmakers are urging President Joe Biden and top officials to take immediate action to pressurize President Bola Tinubu to release Tigran Gambaryan.

Gambaryan was detained in Nigeria on February 26 when he traveled to the country for high-level meetings on Binance’s compliance issues.

Furthermore, they believe that Gambaryan has been unlawfully detained in Nigeria for over three months, according to Coingape report.

Techeconomy gathered that the resolution introduced on July 10 urges the following:

(1) urges the Government of Nigeria to immediately release Tigran Gambaryan from imprisonment;

(2) urges the United States Government to utilize all resources available to secure the release of Tigran Gambaryan, and to raise the case of Tigran and press for his immediate release in all interactions with the Government of Nigeria; amongst other resolutions. Full Resolution is available here]

Meanwhile, Tigran’s wife, Yuki released a statement, saying she is deeply concerned about the husband’s declining health.

“I just want him home so he can get the proper medical care he desperately needs and so that he can heal. I appreciate Congressional focus on obtaining Tigran’s immediate release from custody in Nigeria and Representative McCormick’s continued attention to Tigran’s plight.

“I hope the US government’s involvement will expedite the process of getting him released.

“My husband is innocent, he is not a decision maker at Binance and I hope the Nigerian authorities release him. I again respectfully urge the EFCC to follow the example set by their colleagues at the FIRS (tax authority) and drop these charges against Tigran. He needs to be freed right now.”
