Following the recent report regarding the shutdown of KC Gaming Networks (Bet9ja) outlets by the Enugu State Gaming and Lotto Commission, the management of Bet9ja has issued a formal rejoinder to clarify the situation and correct the “erroneous” narrative of tax default.

In a statement signed by Dr. Ayo Ojuroye, the managing director/CEO, KC Gaming Networks, the gaming giant categorically denied owing the Enugu State Government any legitimate fees, levies, or taxes.

The company described its relationship with the state as historically transparent, noting that it has functioned as a “model corporate entity” for over a decade.

Key Clarifications from Bet9ja:

No Outstanding Liabilities:

Bet9ja maintains that it is not in arrears regarding Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) remittances, license fees, or taxes. The company insists that its financial obligations to the Enugu State Gaming and Lotto Commission are fully discharged up to date.

Resistance to “Stampede” Levies:

The company suggested that the current friction stems from a refusal to pay arbitrary levies. “Our organization will not be stampeded into paying levies/taxes it does not generate from Enugu State to the Gaming and Lotto Commission or any agency of Government,” the statement read.

Failed Mediation:

Before the enforcement action on February 9, 2026, Bet9ja revealed it had engaged in multiple rounds of dialogue with both the Commission and the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS).

However, these engagements failed to reach a resolution, leading to the current legal impasse.

Commitment to Legal Redress:

While the shutdowns were carried out based on an ex-parte order granted by Justice H.O. Eya of the High Court of Enugu State (Suit No. 6/54/2025), Bet9ja stated it would not be intimidated.

The company plans to contest the order and follow due process to ensure the closures are reversed.

The “12-Year” Track Record

Highlighting its long-term investment in the state, Bet9ja emphasized that it has been a significant contributor to the Enugu economy for over 12 years.

The company assured its agents, partners, and the betting public that it is committed to resolving the issue through the proper judicial channels rather than succumbing to administrative pressure.

“We wish to assure our agents and the public that we will continue to follow due process to ensure justice prevails,” Dr. Ojuroye concluded.
