Sony Music Publishing Launches Lagos Office, Appoints Godwin Tom as Managing Director

Global music publishing company, Sony Music Publishing, has launched a new office in Lagos, Nigeria, with Godwin Tom as Managing Director.

An arm of Sony Entertainment, Sony Music Publishing, with over five million owned and administered songs, is well known for its strong advancement and support in the music industry. 

Its expansion into Nigeria is an addition to its increasing market acceleration which cuts across over 40 countries including South Africa. Nigeria happens to be the first in West Africa.

Godwin Tom will be a part of the company’s seamless expansion process in the country. His 20 years of experience gives Sony Music Publishing the assurance of his deep understanding in the African music industry where he has fostered relationships with top stakeholders in Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

Before his appointment, Tom was the CEO of talent management company, iManage Africa. Here, he worked with top talent including Wizkid, Davido, Waje, MI, Wande Coal, Ice Prince, Bez, Show Dem Camp, Beverly Naya, Yung6ix, Jessy Jagz, Rooftop MCs, Solid Star, Ayo Jay, Ikon, and many others.

Tom has also supported the development of future industry leaders through the Music Business Academy for Africa, an e-learning platform dedicated to training the next generation of music and entertainment professionals.

Speaking on his appointment, he said: “I am honoured and humbled by the opportunity to work for the No. 1 music publisher in the world.
