The University of Benin has organised a Soft Skills and Employability Training Programme for students in the institution.

UNIBEN said the training is part of the commitment to producing career-ready and 21st-century-compliant graduates.

The programme, delivered through the Centre for Vocational Training and Skills Acquisition (CVTSA) in partnership with Blue Chip Services and Jobberman, reflects the deliberate vision and strategic direction of Professor Edoba B. Omoregie, the vice chancellor.

 The training seeks to ensure that UNIBEN graduates are equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with the practical competencies required to succeed in an increasingly dynamic and competitive global environment.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Professor Andrew Amenaghawon, the director of the Centre for Vocational Training and Skills Acquisition, described the programme as a demonstration of the University’s evolving approach to higher education where academic excellence is deliberately complemented with practical skills, workplace preparedness, and personal development.

He explained that the programme aligns with the mandate of the Centre to enhance students employability and career readiness and expressed appreciation to the vice chancellor for his foresight, commitment, and support in driving initiatives that prepare University of Benin students for success beyond the classroom while advancing the broader institutional vision of producing employment-ready graduates.

The sessions were interactive and engaging; providing students with practical tools and real-world insights to support informed career planning. Certificates of Competence were presented to participants in recognition of their successful completion of the training.

Kendall Ananyi, the Chief Executive Officer of Tizeti, a leading internet service provider in West Africa, has awarded a scholarship to the graduating class of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Benin.

This grant is the continuation of a program started in 2021 that demonstrates the company’s commitment to upskilling and providing professional opportunities to many Nigerian youths.

Kendall Ananyi stated that the company’s decision to award the grant was motivated by its desire to support the growth and development of Nigerian youths interested in pursuing a career in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The grant will pay tuition fees for the students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 and above.

Speaking about the scholarship, Kendall Ananyi said,

We are proud to support the Class of 2023 of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering program at the University of Benin. At Tizeti, we believe that investing in the education of Nigerian youths is critical to building a bright future for the country. The University of Benin is especially close to my heart as I was in that class and school over 2 decades ago. My experience, as a Chevron University Scholarship Scheme recipient transformed my life and drives Tizeti’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote academic excellence and provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and fulfill their potential. And while we started this at the University of Benin in 2021, we plan to extend to other states and Universities, to enable us to build our front-line workforce by taking brilliant graduates with no experience and transforming them into job-ready, fully qualified professionals in Information and Communications Technology. This will aid our expansion across Nigeria, initially in the ten states we have recently launched in, and subsequently, as we recruit across Nigeria’s 36 states.”

Prof (Mrs.) Patience Orukpe, the Head of Department, of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, University of Benin, said;

We are privileged to have Tizeti around to assist the students, as they continue to award students’ scholarships, provide internships as well as placement for Youth Service. What Tizeti is doing is in line with the vision of our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lilian I. Salami and I want to thank the CEO and the management team for the job well done and we look forward to more opportunities of working with Tizeti.”
