Candidates can securely purchase their WAEC/GCE registration ePINs via remita.net/waec, the Remita mobile app, and authorised partner channels nationwide, eliminating many of the delays, queues, and payment challenges traditionally associated with examination registration.

The campaign forms part of Remita’s broader commitment to using technology to simplify access to critical opportunities for Nigerians, particularly in education.

For many young Nigerians, WAEC is more than an examination. It is a gateway to higher education, employability, entrepreneurship, and future participation in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Against the backdrop of growing conversations around talent shortages, digital inclusion, and the future workforce, Remita says improving access to educational processes is becoming increasingly important for countries seeking long-term economic growth and competitiveness.

Over the last two decades, millions of Nigerian students and families have relied on Remita-powered payment infrastructure to access critical educational opportunities, including examination registrations that shape entry into higher education and future careers. Beyond transactions, this reflects the growing role of digital infrastructure in enabling human potential at scale.

Supporting candidates across all 36 states and the FCT, and serving students from both urban and underserved communities alike, the platform continues to play a quiet but significant role in reducing barriers to educational access.

“In emerging economies, one of the greatest barriers to opportunity is often not talent, but access,” the company stated. “When payment systems become simpler, faster, and more inclusive, they do more than process transactions – they help keep ambition in motion.”

Speaking on the initiative, Chinedu Alisa, head of Enterprise Assets at Remita, said the company remains focused on building infrastructure that supports both everyday convenience and long-term national development.

“When people think about payment platforms, they often think about transactions. But behind many transactions are life-changing moments. For a student, a WAEC registration PIN can represent access to higher education, economic opportunity, and a different future.

“At Remita, we are proud that our infrastructure has supported millions of Nigerians through critical moments over the years. As Africa continues to participate more actively in the global digital economy, enabling educational access at scale becomes not just important, but strategic.

He added that Remita’s continued investment in accessible digital infrastructure reflects a broader belief that technology should help remove barriers and expand opportunities for citizens.

“Technology achieves its highest value when it expands access to opportunity,” he said.

As conversations around talent shortages intensify globally, countries that succeed in reducing friction around educational access today will be better positioned to compete for the innovation economy of tomorrow.

With Remita’s instant PIN delivery system, candidates and parents can complete purchases within minutes from their phones or laptops without visiting physical locations or waiting in long queues.

The platform also supports bulk purchases for schools, churches, NGOs, local governments, and community organisations coordinating registrations for multiple candidates through a single, streamlined process.

Class54 Launches AI Tools to Support JAMB, WAEC Candidates ahead of 2026 Exams https://techeconomy.ng/class54-launches-ai-tools-to-support-jamb-waec-candidates-ahead-of-2026-exams/ https://techeconomy.ng/class54-launches-ai-tools-to-support-jamb-waec-candidates-ahead-of-2026-exams/#respond Sat, 03 Jan 2026 07:52:22 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=173609 Nigerian education technology platform Class54 has introduced new artificial intelligence–powered features aimed at supporting students preparing for major secondary school examinations, including JAMB (UTME), WAEC, and Post-UTME.

The EdTech platform has helped over 300,000 students across Nigeria prepare for and pass local and international examinations through mobile-based practice, offline learning resources, and online instruction.

The update comes as registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is expected to commence soon.

According to the company, the new features include AI-powered explanations for exam questions, expanded offline practice tools, and a live online lesson module.

The AI explanation feature is designed to provide step-by-step reasoning for exam questions, with particular focus on subjects such as Mathematics and Physics.

The system explains how answers are derived rather than simply presenting final results, a model the company says is intended to support conceptual understanding.

In addition, Class54 has introduced live online lessons that allow students to participate in real-time virtual classes led by subject instructors. The sessions are structured to cover syllabus topics and examination strategies through interactive teaching.

Speaking on the technical development behind the update, Class54’s Chief Technology Officer, Oluwasegun Ige, said the platform was built to balance academic depth with mobile accessibility.

“Delivering AI-powered explanations and live lessons in a lightweight mobile environment required careful optimization,” Ige said. “The focus was to ensure the platform remains usable even with limited data access, while maintaining strong offline functionality.”

The platform also continues to offer full offline access to over 25 years of past JAMB and WAEC questions, alongside a voice-enabled assistant that reads exam literature and summaries aloud for users.

Class54 operates on a single subscription model, which covers JAMB, WAEC, and Post-UTME preparation. The company says the plan is designed to reduce the need for multiple exam preparation tools.

With the 2026 examination cycle approaching, Class54 stated that the latest update is intended to provide students with additional digital learning options alongside traditional study methods. The mobile application is available on both Android and iOS platforms.

DIniti8tive | QEDA: Nigeria’s Education Stakeholders Push for Inclusive Digital Exams ahead of 2026 CBT Rollout https://techeconomy.ng/nigerias-education-stakeholders-push-for-inclusive-digital-exams-ahead-of-2026-cbt-rollout/ https://techeconomy.ng/nigerias-education-stakeholders-push-for-inclusive-digital-exams-ahead-of-2026-cbt-rollout/#respond Fri, 05 Sep 2025 11:45:59 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=166527 Education and technology leaders have called for urgent investments in connectivity and inclusive policies as Nigeria prepares to transition all national examinations to computer-based testing (CBT) by 2026.

This was the focus of the inaugural webinar hosted by DIniti8tive in partnership with the Quality Education Development Associates (QEDA), themed “Connectivity and the Cost/Integrity of National Examinations in Nigeria.”

Moderated by Esther Adegunle, associate director for Business and Economic Growth at DAI, the session examined four critical issues: the role of connectivity in exam fairness, the economic and social costs of exam-day glitches, policy and technology innovations, and the launch of DIniti8tive’s policy advocacy platform for education reform.

DIniti8tive - QEDA webinar on CTB exams in Nigeria
Speakers at the DIniti8tive/QEDA webinar on CTB exams in Nigeria

Delivering the opening remarks, Dr. Dara Akala, international development expert and former executive director of the PIND Foundation, emphasized that while Nigeria has made strides in digitalization, challenges remain in education.

“Connectivity gaps, rising telecom costs, and weak ICT infrastructure risk excluding millions of students, especially in rural and underserved communities. This transition must be fair and inclusive,” he said.

The keynote address was delivered by Chief Osita Chidoka, former minister of Aviation and Chancellor of the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, who championed Nigeria’s digital readiness.

He cited JAMB’s CBT success as proof that large-scale digital reforms are possible.

“Over the last decade, Nigeria has undergone a silent digital revolution, from banking to voter registration. The key question is: can we deliver fair, accessible, glitch-free digital examinations for every Nigerian child? The answer depends on political will and sustained innovation,” Chidoka asserted.

Chidoka also shared his experience digitizing processes at the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), including accident reporting, e-ticketing, and staff promotion exams, stressing that digital systems thrive when backed by leadership and infrastructure.

Also speaking, Dr. Fidelis Ekom, co-founder and Managing Partner of DIniti8tive, reiterated the group’s commitment to advocacy and collaboration.

“Today we interrogated a subject that touches the core of educational equity in Nigeria, connectivity and the cost and integrity of national examinations. Together, we’ve examined the realities: the infrastructure gaps, the economic and social toll of exam-day glitches, and the risk of leaving millions of children behind as we transition to full CBT systems.

“Nigeria does not need to disrupt existing systems like JAMB and WAEC. We must expand their capacity, reinforce their integrity, and ensure inclusivity. Every child deserves a fair chance to prove their potential, no matter where they live.

“But more importantly, we have spotlighted solutions: Strengthening connectivity and infrastructure to reach underserved communities; leveraging technology and EdTech innovations that are low-cost, inclusive, and scalable; ensuring shared accountability frameworks where exam bodies, parents, students, and schools co-create solutions, and fostering bold partnerships across government, private sector, and civil society that can truly move us from plans to performance,” Ekom said.

Stakeholders, including representatives from WAEC, NANS, NAPTAN, NAPPS, parents, legal experts, and EdTech innovators, contributed to the discussions, underscoring the need for public-private partnerships to strengthen exam systems.

As next steps, DIniti8tive announced plans to produce a post-event policy brief, share digital advocacy tools, and launch pilot projects that improve exam connectivity, fairness, and reliability ahead of the 2026 CBT deadline.

Remita Deepens Access to Education as 2025 WAEC Second Series Registration Begins https://techeconomy.ng/remita-deepens-access-to-education-as-2025-waec-second-series-registration-begins/ https://techeconomy.ng/remita-deepens-access-to-education-as-2025-waec-second-series-registration-begins/#comments Fri, 04 Jul 2025 08:30:10 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=162375 As the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) opens registration for its 2025 Second Series, Remita, Nigeria’s leading payment technology platform, reaffirms its long-standing commitment to equitable access to education by enabling the easy and secure purchase of registration PINs across digital and physical channels nationwide.

For over a decade, Remita has partnered with the West African Examination Council to simplify the registration process for candidates nationwide.

The 2025 registration window runs from June 30 to August 22, and students can purchase their registration PINs on www.remita.net/waec.

After purchase, candidates are expected to complete their registration at any designated CBT centre.

In a country where over 60% of the population is under 25 and access to education remains critical to national progress, Remita’s sustained role in enabling payments for essential academic milestones is both strategic and symbolic.

It reflects not only the platform’s robust technology but also a deep-seated commitment to empowering young Nigerians with the tools to shape their futures.

For many students – particularly those seeking to rewrite their academic outcomes – this exam is not just a second chance, but a crucial step toward upward mobility.

Chinedu Alisa, head of Enterprise Assets at Remita, commented on the current registration cycle saying:

“We are not new to this. We have built the infrastructure that powers not just business and government transactions, but moments that shape lives – like a student securing their future. Our technology serves millions, yet we remain focused on each individual and their journey. Writing the WAEC  exam is a defining milestone for many, and every seamless transaction on our platform brings them one step closer to their next chapter. At Remita, we are not just processing payments – we are enabling possibilities.”

As demand for digital access continues to grow, Remita has tackled some of the most persistent barriers to WAEC registration, including payments, unreliable platforms, and limited reach in underserved areas.

Through a combination of resilient infrastructure, real-time processing, intuitive user experience, and 24/7 accessibility, Remita ensures the process is efficient, stress-free, transparent, and widely accessible.

The Remita platform supports high-volume transactions, connects directly to banks, merchants, and payment providers, and is designed to scale with the needs of a growing digital population.

Through both online and in-person touchpoints, Remita has become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s payments ecosystem – bridging digital innovation with real-world access.

“Our mission has always gone beyond business. It’s about national development, equity, and innovation,” Alisa added. “Whether it’s WAEC, salaries, taxes, transfers, or donations, we are the platform that powers every payment – for everyone, everywhere.”

As WAEC, the education sector, and broader Nigerian society continue to advance, Remita is evolving alongside.

From its early role in powering government and corporate payments, the company has become a vital platform for daily life – supporting school fees, interbank transfers, retail payments, and more.

Education remains one of its most impactful touchpoints.

In a rapidly maturing digital economy, Remita sees a future where education, empowerment, and technology intersect seamlessly – supported by infrastructure that is locally rooted and globally relevant.

As the 2025 WAEC Second Series registration opens, Remita encourages students, parents, and schools to take advantage of its secure and convenient payment channels for a smooth and timely registration experience.

Remita’s continued work in education reflects a broader commitment to building infrastructure for inclusive progress – where every transaction brings people closer to their goals, and no one is excluded from opportunity due to geography, income, or access.

Recall, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), last Monday released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UMTE), raising concerns about mass failure as more than 1.5 million out of 1.9 million candidates whose results were released scored below 200.

The UTME is graded over 400, with each candidate assessed in four subjects scored over 100 marks each.

A breakdown of the results released by JAMB on Monday showed that 983,187 candidates (50.29%) scored between 160 and 199, while 488,197 candidates (24.97%) scored between 140 and 159.

Additionally, 57,419 candidates (2.94%) scored between 120 and 139.

However, Glo, in a statement in Lagos over the weekend, highlighted the benefits of its Examination Preparatory Service, including innovative solutions designed to help students excel in examination such as JAMB, WAEC, and IELTS, adding that it would help reverse poor performance of students in CBT exams such as the one witnessed in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

“The Glo Examination Preparatory Service provides students with practical tips and strategies to improve their performance in exams. By subscribing to the service, students can access practice materials, educational videos, and targeted exam preparation content. This comprehensive approach enables students to familiarize themselves with exam formats, identify areas of weakness, and develop effective exam-taking strategies”, said Globacom.

Globacom’s Examination Preparatory Service gives practical tips on how to become familiar with the format, structure, and type of questions asked in the exams, and reinforce their understanding of key concepts, address challenges, thereby increasing their success rates when they participate in the exams.

To subscribe to the service which covers up to twenty subjects with links to educational videos, students can dial *20791*6#, on their mobile lines and select their intended exam from the menu.

The content is supplied on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, and users are charged at the applicable price for each successful subscription.

Additionally, customers who opt-in for this service will have access to trivia questions built around the exam syllabus, with top scorers winning fantastic airtime, data, and cash prizes.

The Company explained that this service will help combat poor examination performances among secondary school students and candidates sitting for entrance undergraduate examinations by providing students with the tools and resources they need to succeed.

Nov/Dec 2024 WASSCE: 2,577 Candidates’ Results Withheld https://techeconomy.ng/nov-dec-2024-wassce-2577-candidates-results-withheld/ https://techeconomy.ng/nov-dec-2024-wassce-2577-candidates-results-withheld/#respond Mon, 17 Feb 2025 05:47:48 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=153236 The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2024 November/December West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) for private candidates (second series).

The examination body announced the release of the results on Sunday night.

A total of 65,023 candidates sat for the WASSCE, out of which 34,878 candidates, representing 53.64%, obtained credits and above in at least five mandatory subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

44.29% and 42.16 % of the total candidates, who sat the same diet in 2023 and 2022, respectively, had a similar result, indicating a marginal increase of 9.35% performance over that of the previous two years.

Similarly, a total of 16, 886 candidates (representing 48.41%) out of the total number who obtained credits and above in at least five mandatory subjects, including English Language and Mathematics in the exam under review were males, while 17,992 representing 51.58% were females, indicating that more females did better than their male counterparts in the exam.

The exam was conducted in two modes- the Paper and Pen option and the computer-based hybrid format.

Dr. Amos Dangut, the head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria, announced the release of the results in a statement made available by Mrs Moyosola Adesina, the council’s head of Public Affairs department, to newsmen, on Sunday night.

He explained that only 62,364 candidates from the total number, representing 95.90%, already had their results fully processed and released, while 2,669 candidates, representing 4.1% still have one or more results being processed due to errors traceable to them.

Dangut, however, pointed out that the results of 2,577 (representing 3.98%) of the total number of candidates who sat for the exam are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of exam malpractice and their cases would be investigated to determine their fate if their results would be eventually released or canceled.

He said the council would fast-tract the process and communicate accordingly to those concerned but could as well get details on the council’s portal.

Dangut disclosed that the results of all the 157 candidates with varying degrees of special needs including 25 visually impaired, 13 hearing impaired and 15 albinos, among others, who sat for the exam nationwide had been fully processed and released with that of others.

While the WAEC boss asked candidates to start checking their results on the council’s website given as www.waecdirect.org, he noted that candidates would also be required to apply for hard copies of their certificates which are available already online through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman) website, given as https://certrequest.waec.ng.

No Age Limited to Entry into Tertiary Institutions – Minister  https://techeconomy.ng/no-age-limited-to-entry-into-tertiary-institutions-minister/ https://techeconomy.ng/no-age-limited-to-entry-into-tertiary-institutions-minister/#respond Sat, 07 Sep 2024 07:01:46 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=142544 Dr. Yusuf Sununu, the minister of State for Education, has said there is no age limit for students participating in any ordinary level examination.

He said the clarification became necessary due to media reports misrepresenting the statement of the Minister of Education.

Dr. Sununu explained this at a Press briefing in Abuja, saying that the ministry was only enforcing the age limit for entry into tertiary institutions as enshrined in the National Policy on Education.

“Nobody among the two of us stated anything about age for WAEC, NECO, NBAIS, NABTEB or any examination. All we have been mentioning is about age of entry or admission into university.

When you look at our National policy on Education, that’s says we have 0-5 years of the one year of pre-primary school, before you enter into primary school, that’s making it 6 years before you enter into primary school, you remain there in the next 6 years, making it 12 years, then you go to secondary, making it 18 years’’. He said

The Minister who said investigations revealed that some tertiary institutions had granted admission to underaged students, however acknowledged that some children were exceptionally intelligent and the Ministry was working on a guideline to categorize and exempt them from the age limit.

‘’It was shocking to see that a university in Nigeria gave admission to children at the age of 10,11,12.

But we are also not saying that there are no exceptions, we know that we can have talented students that can have the IQ of an adult, even at the age of 6, 7 but these are very few.

For such, there must be a rule and the ministry is looking at developing a guideline on how to identify and label a child as talented, so that we can have that exception.

So that parents cannot say we have blocked the child’’ Dr. Sununu stated that the various concerns by stakeholders have been noted and would be looked into at the National Council on Education meeting.

The Minister assured Nigerians that the enforcement of the 18-year age limit into tertiary institutions was part of measures aimed at sanitizing and transforming the education sector.
