President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Elon Musk, alongside biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, to head the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Tasked with simplifying federal operations, Musk and Ramaswamy will focus on reducing government bureaucracy, cutting excessive regulations, and eliminating wasteful spending, in alignment with Trump’s “Save America” agenda.
DOGE will operate as an advisory entity outside traditional government channels, allowing Musk and Ramaswamy to propose direct reforms without the need for legislative approvals.
This initiative will impact federal operations, ensuring a more efficient government by July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of American independence.
In this move, DOGE’s creation reiterates Trump’s intent to target wasteful spending and inefficiencies across federal agencies.
Musk and Ramaswamy’s mission will be to establish a more accountable and satisfactory federal system, which Trump asserts will better serve the American people.
DOGE will operate differently from typical government agencies by working independently of established structures. The department will collaborate closely with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget, allowing Musk and Ramaswamy the flexibility to identify inefficiencies and propose reforms without requiring formal legislative approval.
Elon Musk, known for his leadership in companies such as Tesla and SpaceX, has frequently advocated for more streamlined and efficient government operations.
Earlier, he pledged to find as much as $2 trillion in possible cuts to federal spending if Trump were elected. Ramaswamy, a former presidential candidate, shares Musk’s vision of a leaner, more entrepreneurial approach to government and will focus on applying private-sector principles to their mission.
Trump has given DOGE until July 4, 2026, to implement its recommendations, a timeline that coincides with America’s 250th Independence Day.
Trump has likened the initiative to a “modern Manhattan Project,” showing the scale and urgency of the envisioned reforms.
Confident in the duo’s ability to drive change, he envisions DOGE as a cornerstone in his plan to reshape federal governance.
