Entrepreneur, philanthropist, and construction magnate Dr. Tunji Olowolafe has unveiled two landmark initiatives designed to redefine education and digital empowerment in Nigeria: the Gbemisola Olowolafe Memorial (GOM) ICT Centre and the GOM Community Secondary School (GOMCSS).
Launched under the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, the twin projects pay tribute to his late wife, Mrs. Gbemisola Olutayo Olowolafe, who passed on March 11, 2025, and whose legacy of service and compassion inspired the vision.
Building Nigeria’s Next Generation of Digital Talent
At the heart of the initiative is the GOMTECH ICT Centre, a 40-seat, state-of-the-art facility equipped with high-speed internet, uninterrupted power, and robust security.
Positioned as the pilot for a network of tech hubs across Africa, the centre offers training in cutting-edge fields including:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Blockchain
- Quantum Computing
- Cybersecurity
- Data Analytics
- UX Design
- Digital Marketing
- IT Support & Project Management
Every learner is issued a unique lifelong digital identity (email account) to track learning outcomes and measure real-world progress.
“Our goal is to move beyond computer literacy,” Olowolafe noted. “We want learners to graduate with globally recognized certifications and the confidence to thrive in the modern digital economy.”
A Model School for the Community
Sitting adjacent to the ICT hub is the GOM Community Secondary School, a fully equipped model institution with smart classrooms, fast internet, and sports facilities. Officially handed over to the Ekiti State Ministry of Education, the school is set to serve Are-Ekiti and its surrounding communities.
The curriculum integrates Google-certified programs, blockchain and agentic AI certifications, and a job-readiness track covering CV writing, interview preparation, and internships.
Teachers are not left out, they will benefit from international professional development partnerships with organizations like the Commonwealth Education Trust and Google for Education.
“These projects are about more than technology,” Olowolafe emphasized. “They prove that Nigerian youth can achieve world-class outcomes at home, regardless of background.”
A Living Legacy
Trained as a medical doctor and celebrated as a construction entrepreneur, chairman, Deux Project Limited, Dr. Olowolafe described his late wife as his greatest inspiration:
“She was my rock, my partner, and my best friend. Her wisdom, compassion, and strength shaped every step of my journey.”
By anchoring both the ICT hub and model school in her name, Olowolafe positions the projects as a living tribute to her legacy of compassion and empowerment.
