Unilever Nigeria Appoints Two New Board Members

Unilever Nigeria

Unilever Nigeria Plc has appointed two new board members, Ben Langat as a Non-Executive Director and Obinna Emenyonu as an Executive Director, effective January 18, 2024.

These appointments come following the resignation of Jaime Aguilera as Non-Executive Director on January 17, 2024.

A memo signed by Afolasade Olowe, Senior Counsel and Company Secretary, stated: “The Board of Directors would like to express their sincere gratitude to Mr Aguilera for his outstanding contributions leading to significant development and setting Unilever Nigeria Plc on a path to sustainable and profitable growth.”

Langat takes on the role of Non-Executive Director and brings a wealth of experience to Unilever Nigeria PLC. Responsible for Unilever’s operations in East and West Africa, Langat recently transitioned from Friesland Campina on January 1 of the current year. His career journey includes a start at Unilever, where he held various positions across different regions in Africa, notably in Kenya, Malawi, and Ghana.

Subsequently, he ventured to Coca-Cola Nigeria, where he earned the position of Managing Director before joining Friesland Campina, where he was appointed to lead their Sub-Saharan Africa operations. A Kenyan national, Langat’s appointment is anticipated to further strengthen Unilever Nigeria PLC’s strategic leadership.

Emenyonu assumes the role of Executive Director, bringing a wealth of experience in strategic procurement leadership. His journey with Unilever Nigeria Plc began in 2019 when he took on the role of Procurement Director for West Africa. Prior to joining Unilever, he served as Head of Procurement at Lafarge Africa PLC and held the position of Head of Procurement for Africa at PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc. Mr. Emenyonu’s strategic insight and procurement expertise are expected to contribute significantly to Unilever Nigeria’s continued success.

In the memo, the Board welcomed Ben Langat and Obinna Emenyonu, expressing confidence in their abilities and wishing them success in their respective roles. The appointment points to the company’s focus on maintaining a strong leadership team and strategically positioning the company for continued growth in the dynamic Nigerian market.

The announcement was officially signed by Afolasade Olowe (MRS), Senior Counsel, and Company Secretary of Unilever Nigeria PLC, emphasizing the transparency and compliance with corporate governance in the leadership transitions within the company.
