Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, recently announced an update on Threads which everyone has been anticipating.
One of the key updates is the introduction of a feature that allows users to delete their Threads profile separately from Instagram account. Previously, the close integration between Threads and Instagram meant that deleting one also resulted in the deletion of the other.
This limitation sparked frustration among users who wanted more autonomy over the app’s presence without impacting their Instagram account.
With the new update, users can now navigate to Settings → Account → Delete or Deactivate Profile on Threads and select the delete option. This provides a streamlined and straightforward process for users looking to manage their profile independently of the attached Instagram account.
The second noteworthy update addresses the visibility of Threads posts beyond the app itself. Instagram introduced a feature allowing posts on the app to be directly visible on Facebook and Instagram, aiming to expand users’ reach and audience. However, user feedback revealed a desire for more control over the dissemination of content.
In response, Instagram is rolling out an opt-out feature that allows users to decide whether their Threads posts are featured outside the app. By going to Settings → Privacy, users can now exercise greater control over where content is shared, aligning with Instagram’s goal of user privacy and customisable experiences.
These recent updates reiterate Instagram’s mission to refine its products based on user feedback. The ability to delete a profile separately from Instagram accounts and the introduction of enhanced privacy controls empower users to curate Threads’ experience with more precision.
