Veritas Kapital Appoints Former FCCPC CEO as Board Chairman

Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc has appointed Babatunde Irukera, the immediate past executive vice chairman/CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), as its new Board Chairman.

The appointment was announced in a disclosure signed by Saratu Umar Garba, company secretary/legal adviser. According to the statement, the board members unanimously appointed Irukera during the company’s 196th Board Meeting held on July 31, 2025.

Irukera was previously appointed as a non-executive director during the 195th Board Meeting on May 2, 2025, with his appointment recently approved by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), the company’s primary regulator.

A legal and regulatory expert, Babatunde Irukera brings over three decades of experience in institutional reform, market regulation, and public interest litigation in Nigeria and internationally.

He has advised and represented both federal and state governments, regulatory agencies, and international organizations in complex, high-impact matters including major aviation accident claims and multi-jurisdictional consumer and competition cases.

He is a former Managing Partner at Simmons Cooper Partners, with his work spanning commercial law, securities litigation, corporate governance, and stakeholder engagement.

Called to the Nigerian Bar and also admitted to practice in the United States, Irukera holds a law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), American Bar Association (ABA), and International Bar Association (IBA).

The board expressed strong confidence in his experience and leadership, stating that his appointment is expected to further drive the company’s growth while strengthening regulatory compliance.
