Payment cards and digital tokens brand, Visa, in partnership with Providus Bank, has launched the ProvidusVerve Travel Card.

This naira-based travel card is designed to provide inbound travellers with a smooth, secure, and convenient payment experience during their stay in Nigeria.

Launched to target the expected influx of tourists, expatriates, business visitors, conference delegates, and returning diaspora during the festive “DettyDecember” period, the ProvidusVerve Travel Card allows seamless payments for transportation, hotels, dining, shopping, entertainment, and daily essentials nationwide.

The card also works on select global platforms that accept Verve, including Netflix and Google Play, ensuring travellers maintain access to familiar services.

The card removes the need for travellers to source naira or exchange foreign currency upon arrival. It supports instant, secure transactions, reduces reliance on cash, and aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s cashless policy.

In addition, it lowers risks associated with carrying physical cash, such as loss, theft, or fraud, offering a safe, regulation-compliant option for both online and in-person payments.

Paul Ohakim, vice president, Issuing and Acquiring Management, Africa, Verve International, said:

“The ProvidusVerve Travel Card is a timely solution for inbound travellers seeking reliability, security, and simplicity while navigating Nigeria. Together with Providus Bank, we have created a product that removes the usual friction associated with accessing local payments. Whether for tourism, business, or festive activities, this card ensures a smooth financial experience from the moment visitors arrive.”

Ademola Adeniran, divisional head, Product Management and Solution Delivery, Interswitch, added:

“This partnership reflects Verve’s commitment to designing products that meet real user needs. The ProvidusVerve Travel Card supports everyday experiences, from booking rides and hotels to shopping, streaming, and dining. It provides inbound travellers with a secure, digital-first way to enjoy Nigeria without financial barriers.”

As Nigeria prepares for its busiest holiday travel season, the ProvidusVerve Travel Card represents a key step in improving the visitor experience and supporting growth in the country’s tourism and creative economy.

Powered by Verve’s secure, widely accepted payment technology, the card ensures inbound travellers enjoy seamless digital payments throughout their stay.
