MediaTek x ZTE partnership

Quick Read:

  • ZTE and MediaTek announce a strategic partnership in Brazil to launch premium Wi-Fi 7 and XGSPON connectivity solutions, targeting high-end households and small businesses amid fierce broadband market competition

ZTE Corporation and MediaTek are testing faster and more reliable internet solutions for homes and small businesses in Brazil, as demand grows for stronger Wi-Fi connections capable of supporting many connected devices at once.

The announcement was made during the 2026 ZTE Broadband User Congress, where both companies said they would work together to expand high-performance broadband products powered by the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology.

The companies explained that many internet users today need stronger internet connections because modern homes and offices now depend heavily on smartphones, smart TVs, gaming systems, security cameras, remote work tools, and streaming services running at the same time.

To address this, ZTE and MediaTek are promoting “tri-band Wi-Fi 7,” a newer internet technology that uses three different frequency bands — 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz — simultaneously.

In simple terms, this allows internet traffic to spread more efficiently across multiple channels, helping users enjoy faster speeds, reduced delays, and more stable connections, especially in crowded environments with many connected devices.

According to Samir Vani, there is a growing number of consumers and businesses in Brazil willing to pay more for premium internet services that offer better speed, wider coverage, and smoother performance.

He noted that many internet providers currently offer similar packages to all customers, making it difficult to stand out in Brazil’s highly competitive broadband market.

Brazil reportedly has more than 20,000 fibre internet providers competing mainly on price, which has created pressure for companies to differentiate themselves through service quality and technology upgrades.

Phoenix Li said ZTE’s new equipment is designed to improve internet experience throughout homes and offices by allowing devices to connect across multiple frequencies at the same time.

One of the technologies highlighted was Multi-Link Operation (MLO), a feature in Wi-Fi 7 that enables devices to switch intelligently between different bands to maintain stronger and more stable internet connections.

The companies believe advanced broadband technologies like Wi-Fi 7 could become increasingly important as more households and businesses adopt cloud services, video streaming, online gaming, smart home devices, and artificial intelligence-powered applications.

Industry experts say the partnership reflects the growing race among global technology firms to deliver next-generation internet infrastructure capable of supporting rising data consumption and digital lifestyles worldwide.
