African e-commerce giant Jumia has announced an innovative alliance with satellite internet service provider Starlink to launch the Starlink Residential Kit in the continent.

This development comes shortly after Paratus Group, a provider of integrated network services, stated that it had agreed to serve as a distributor for Starlink’s high-speed services throughout Africa. In Mozambique, Kenya, Rwanda, and Nigeria, Starlink services will be made immediately accessible through Paratus, with further expansion into additional countries on the horizon.

The main goal of Jumia and Starlink’s partnership is to close the digital gap that has existed in disadvantaged areas of Africa. This cooperation, which launched in Nigeria, is prepared to expand into Kenya with the goal of eventually including all African countries where Jumia maintains a functional presence.

Jumia, which has a valuation of over $1 billion, became the first unicorn on the continent in 2016. Additionally, it has experienced a quick development of its services to more than 15 African nations. Jumia has effectively built a physical presence throughout Nigeria, even in isolated locations, thanks to its large network of 285 pickup stations (PUS) in countless communities. Jumia has an unrelenting dedication to providing a comprehensive shopping solution.

Jumia, recognized for its extensive marketplace, is supported by its in-house logistics division, Jumia Logistics, and also has a fintech and digital payment platform called JumiaPay. When it comes to using low Earth orbit technology to deliver high-speed broadband internet, its partner in this project, Starlink, holds the record as the world’s first and largest satellite constellation. This technology can support activities like streaming, online gaming, and video conversations.

The download of the Starlink App and careful positioning of the Starlink satellite dish to provide an unobstructed view of the sky are the only requirements for this unique kit, which is meant to seamlessly connect users to the internet. Users only need a little plug-in to establish connectivity.

The firm envisions a future in which millions of Africans may make use of the revolutionary potential of high-speed internet thanks to Jumia’s enormous reach and Starlink’s satellite constellation, which was developed under the direction of parent firm SpaceX.
