FG Launches Project 774 LG Connectivity to Bridge Digital Divide

Project 774 LG Connectivity

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched “Project 774 LG Connectivity,” an initiative announced by Minister Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, to boost digital inclusion in the country.

He said: “As part of our plans to foster inclusive development and promote access to digital public infrastructure in government, I am happy to announce the launch of Project 774 LG Connectivity.”

This nationwide program aims to connect all 774 Local Government Secretariats to the internet, bridging the digital divide and bringing the benefits of online access to even the most remote corners of the country.

Leveraging existing infrastructure from Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) and Galaxy Backbone, Project 774 LG Connectivity targets a future where local governments operate with enhanced transparency and efficiency, empowered by reliable and affordable internet connections.

In connecting these essential offices, the project fosters inclusive development by ensuring equitable participation in the digital economy, even for previously underserved areas.

The Project is expected to create at least 300 direct jobs during deployment, with the potential for even more indirect opportunities arising from increased digital access. This ripple effect has the potential to stimulate economic growth, opening doors for new local businesses and enabling innovation across the nation.

“Project 774 LG Connectivity will create at least 300 direct jobs as we deploy nationwide and potentially more jobs indirectly from the increase in digital access. It is also aligned with our Ministry’s Strategic Blueprint and a significant step in achieving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate to deliver efficient public service to our citizens at the LG level.”

Minister Tijani emphasized the project’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for efficient public service and the Ministry’s strategic goals. He highlighted strategic partnerships, cutting-edge technology deployment, and affordability as key aspects ensuring the project’s success.
