Third Mainland Bridge Nears Completion with Solar Lighting, CCTV Installation for Enhanced Security

Third Mainland Bridge

Lagos residents can expect some relief soon as repairs on the Third Mainland Bridge nears completion.

Beyond repairs, the Federal Works Minister David Umahi has revealed that the project on Third Mainland Bridge incorporates enhanced security features to combat crime and illegal activities around the bridge.

“When you talk about the total rehabilitation of the bridge, you talk about the deck,” Umahi said. “Thankfully, Mr President has released the funds, and I can confidently say that 99% of the project is done.”

While the bridge itself is nearly finished, additional work is underway to improve safety and deter illegal activity. This includes replacing existing generator-powered lights with solar-powered lighting for both the top and underside of the bridge.

“We are also putting up CCTV cameras,” Umahi explained. “President Tinubu himself pointed out the issue of people illegally mining sand under the bridge. I’ve seen it myself – they’re even damaging the concrete to anchor their boats.”

The minister spoke in optimism about the project’s impact, not just on traffic flow, but also on the overall security of the bridge.

This news comes after weeks of repair work that caused high traffic congestion for motorists and commuters. The exact reopening date remains unrevealed, but the announcement suggests it’s imminent.

In addition to the bridge repairs, Minister Umahi took the opportunity to point out his strong support for President Tinubu’s administration. He believes President Tinubu’s leadership is divinely ordained and predicts an eight-year term for the current administration.

“You must know that the coming onboard of Mr President is divine,” Umahi stated. “When God starts a thing, He completes it.” He went on to praise President Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to “taking back this country and giving it back to Nigerians.”
