Introducing Click Wise Initiative's cybersecurity toolkit

A group of final-year communication master’s students from the School of Media and Communication (SMC), Pan-Atlantic University (PAU), have launched the Click Wise Initiative, an inclusive digital education project aimed at reducing cybercrime risks among hearing-impaired women.

The initiative introduces a video-based cybersecurity toolkit designed in accessible formats to help hearing-impaired women better understand and respond to common cyber threats including phishing, cyberbullying, identity theft, and online fraud.

The project was officially launched on December 10, 2025, in response to the growing prevalence of cybercrime in Nigeria and the limited availability of cybersecurity resources tailored to people living with disabilities.

The seven-member team behind the initiative includes

  • Benedict Oghenede (project lead), Ayomide Oladipo, Joanne Davies, Stephany Oribabor, Joshua Mbak, Uyime Itsueli, and Dorcas Damson Bello.

According to Uyime Itsueli, a member of the team, the initiative was driven by the need to make cybersecurity education more inclusive.

“The digital space should be safe for everyone, yet many cybersecurity resources are not designed for people with disabilities,” Itsueli said. “This project reflects our commitment to bridging that gap by delivering practical cybersecurity knowledge in formats the hearing-impaired community can engage with.”

Dorcas Damson Bello, public relations officer of the Click Wise Initiative, highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in strengthening digital safety.

“This video toolkit is only the beginning,” Bello said. “We call on government agencies, technology companies, non-governmental organisations, and educators to collaborate with us in creating a safer and more inclusive digital environment for all.”
