Airtel Nigeria has been recognized for its dedication towards the advancement of technology in Nigeria by the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC).

The award was presented to Airtel at W.TEC’s 15th Anniversary dinner on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at La Chaumiere Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos.

W.TEC, a notable beneficiary of Airtel’s corporate social responsibility initiative, Touching Lives Season 6, applauded the telecommunication company’s significant contribution towards fostering opportunities for women and girls in the tech sector, revealing that the charity’s programs have impacted over 3,672 individuals since Airtel’s intervention.

Carl Cruz, the chief executive officer, Airtel Nigeria, in response to the gesture by W.TEC, expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the company’s objective of driving technological advancements and empowering women in technology.

“We remain dedicated to our mission to contribute to the advancement of women and girls in Nigeria, ensuring that they thrive in the ever-evolving world of technology. This Award of Recognition from W.TEC serves as a testament to our unwavering dedication to fostering positive change and creating equal opportunities in the digital landscape, and we look forward to creating a more lasting impact,” he said.

Also commenting on the recognition, Head of Corporate Communications & CSR, Femi Adeniran, expressed delight over the recognition presented by W.TEC.

“We are truly honoured to receive this Award of Recognition from W.TEC, a beneficiary of Airtel Touching Lives season 6 interventions. This is inspiring for us as an organization as it does not only motivate us to do more, but to know that our CSR interventions are truly touching lives,” he said.

Highlighting the positive influence of Airtel Nigeria’s intervention, Chief Executive Officer, Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre, Oreoluwa Lesi, expressed her gratitude over the telco’s support.

“The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) started operations in 2008 with a dream to inspire more girls to pursue careers in technology.  We would not be where we are without your support as a partner. At W.TEC, we would continue to build a pipeline of women in STEM for today and tomorrow,” she said.

Recall that Airtel Board of Directors, led by Airtel Africa GCEO, Segun Ogunsanya and Airtel Nigeria’s CEO, Carl Cruz, recently paid a visit to W.TEC, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a lasting impact towards creating access to tech education for girls and women.
