Bolt Launches Safety Measures

Yahaya H. Mohammed, Country Manager of Bolt

In a bid to prioritize the safety of its riders and drivers, Bolt, the ride-hailing company, has implemented rigorous measures and allocated over N20 million to solidify its safety features and initiatives.

The company has taken a stern stance on the verification process, leading to the suspension of more than 5,000 drivers over the past six months due to non-compliance and safety-related issues.

Yahaya H. Mohammed, the Country Manager of Bolt, shed light on the company’s safety initiatives aimed at building a stronger community. The focus is a key element that stimulates a comprehensive approach to safety.

Driver and Rider Awareness Program

Bolt has introduced a comprehensive awareness and training program for both riders and drivers. The program aims to educate users on safety best practices, emphasizing respectful and responsible behaviour on the platform. “At Bolt, the safety of all users on our platform is our top priority,” says Yahaya Mohammed, the Country Manager.

Enhanced Safety Measures

Mohammed highlighted the meticulous safety checks and onboarding procedures for drivers. Bolt ensures that every driver undergoes car inspections, document verifications, and individual license checks. Drivers will now take selfies to verify their profiles, adding an extra layer of security, working against cases of driver impersonation and account sharing.

Trip Sharing and Live Tracking

Bolt’s trip-sharing feature enables users to share trip details in real-time with trusted contacts. The live tracking feature provides transparency and records the entire trip, offering valuable evidence in case of any incidents.

Advanced Reporting Mechanisms

To enhance reporting of safety incidents, Bolt has introduced improved reporting mechanisms, empowering users to report safety concerns more efficiently. Bolt has enhanced its safety features to facilitate improved detection and provide clear, user-friendly prompts for both riders and drivers. This enables easy in-app communication in case of any issues during a trip, ensuring prompt assistance. The company also has dedicated 24/7 Safety and Social Media Support available in-app.

SOS Emergency Button and Rating System

The SOS emergency button, easily accessible within the app, allows drivers to contact emergency services swiftly. A robust rating system ensures that both riders and drivers are consistently evaluated, promoting accountability within the community.

Shift Limits for Drivers

Recognizing the importance of driver well-being, Bolt enforces shift limits to prevent overworked drivers. Drivers are required to take breaks after a certain number of consecutive hours, promoting safety and preventing fatigue-related issues. This will further ensure they stay alert and responsible while on the road.

Continuous Improvement and Investigations

Bolt is committed to continuous improvement, constantly reviewing safety measures and responding to feedback. Mohammed emphasized that investigations are conducted when incidents are reported, ensuring a thorough examination of all relevant information.

Insurance Coverage

The discussion extended to the comprehensive insurance coverage provided by Bolt. This coverage extends to both riders and drivers, offering protection against accidents and damages during trips. The clarity on coverage for personal belongings, such as laptops or phones, enhances user confidence.

Data Privacy and Verification

Addressing concerns about data privacy, Bolt’s emphasis on user consent for data processing is key. The platform aims to verify user information against national databases, enhancing the accuracy of rider details and ensuring a secure environment.

Educating Stakeholders

In terms of educating both riders and drivers about new safety measures, Bolt utilizes various channels, including in-app messaging, social media, and its website. Regular communication ensures that all stakeholders are well-informed about the evolving safety protocols.

Yahaya Mohammed emphasized, “Our enhanced safety measures, stricter compliance measures, coupled with technology-driven solutions, reaffirm our commitment to providing a secure and reliable transportation experience for all.”

Regarding data privacy, Bolt assures users that it follows strict protocols. The company processes data for verification purposes only, with plans to cross-check information against national databases. Future plans include learning more about customers while maintaining a focus on data privacy.

As Bolt looks toward 2024, the focus remains on enhancing customers’ satisfaction, balancing innovation with economic factors, and maintaining a commitment to safety in every aspect of its operations.
